View Full Version : True or False: James has been best player since his 3rd year in NBA?

Would it be a true statement to say that James has been the best player in the NBA since the year after the 2004 summer games, and still is?

Even with the LAKERS, SPURS AND PISTONS having great teams in those years, the guy who carried D-LEAGUERS to be title contenders year in and year out was the best player in the league?

He was a top 10-20 player from about 2004-2012, then when all the greats retired he became a top 3 player from about 2012 onwards. But he was never as good as Kobe or Dirk or even Wade when they were all in their prime. He may not have been as good as Howard in 08-09 either.

I don't even think you believe that yourself..."top 20 player" :lol . Not only do you not believe that..I doubt you even really like basketball or ever played it...your just a extremely casual fan.

In fact I know.

Whys that?

Dirk, Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Wade, Garnett, Howard, Paul and others I am forgetting were better than him at one point or another. He was always in the top 10-20 pool. It's just now that the league is so bad that he's emerged as a top 3-5 player.

top 3 arguably. Maybe top 1 since 09 but that case is pretty weak(don't see it at all for 11 or 15).

From 2004 who has had the most MVP's of the league :confusedshrug:

What year did James take his Cav's to the playoff's :confusedshrug:

Who had the most finals appearances since 2004 :confusedshrug:

I don't know these answers , so someone will have to come up with them.

He was in the running since his third year, yes, and since 2009 he was the best.

Nah top 3 from 06 - 08. Bryant was the best.

Not until his defense got better after the Olympics playing alongside Kobe, and developing a more consistent jumper. From 2009 until now he's always been the definitive best total player on the court, factoring in both sides of the ball.

No amount of Curry kool-aid sipping can change that to the astute basketball fan. Rose, Durant and Curry all had their moments of flavor of the week owning that title to some but none truly ever bested him as an individual player.

Only one who had the ability to be considered better was Kobe and he was on the downside of his career when LeBron was peaking.

Wade also but he passed his prime / peak as teammates with him. Those were the only true competitors.

Of course it's false. Not even the best player from his own draft class until Wade went down in 07.

This.

You could have replaced Lebron with any top 15-20 player (example: Joe Johnson) from 2006-2010 and they would have still been a contending team.

Joe Johnson
Mo Williams
Anthony Parker
Varejao
Illgauskas

Bench: Delonte West, Daniel Gibson

That team would have a legitimate chance to get to the Finals.

He's been ARGUABLY the best player since 2008 (2007-2008 season).

I get a lot of flack for saying it, especially from the Kobe brigade, but LeBron had the best stats and impact in the league. I would actually lean towards 1A/B with Kobe.

2009 LeBron is when he and "best player" were synonymous.
