View Full Version : Today is the Last day Jordan has an argument for GOAT

After today, he moves firmly into the #2-5 tier of players.

Is that the reason Jordan stans are melting down now? :confusedshrug:

Come on bro, if LeBron wins this one, he goes into the Magic/Wilt/Russell tier. He will probably end up third all time behind MJ and Kareem Abdul-Mr.Jabbar. It would take a miracle for him to be GOAT.

At this point it's hard to imagine what LeBron would have to do to even be in the same sentence, that ship has sailed long ago with 2007 and 2011 performances m8

So did Jordans ship sail from 1985-1987 when he went 1-9?

When you think about it, achieving a finals FMVP against the 73 win Warriors while leading both teams in every major stat... is actually the single greatest achievement in basketball history.

LeBron was already knocking at the door with 4 MVPS and a consistent long history of being the best player in the world.

So how couldn't a win tonight in game 7 push him past Jordan? (1-9)

The ironic thing is, this would come on fathers day, a day Jordan probably dreads. LeBron never even had a father to mourn, but Jordan was actually responsible for his own fathers death.

Tough day for Jordan and his fans. Hopefully you guys don't meltdown too much. :lol

If you put Russell in today's game, do you really expect him to have as much impact as LeBron or win 11 championships? He would bring the intangibles and defense, but there are two sides of basketball.

He does have 11 championships but Robery Horry has 7 as well. You can't rank someone just because of rings. Russell has a career average of 15 points in a watered-down era with less athletic players than today and more shots attempted per game (also the reason players averaged so many rebounds).

Agreed, plus coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals, NEVER been one before

PLUS, he has 0 all-star teammates on his roster, while Warriors have 3 all-stars.

The entire deck is stacked against LeBron, this is the biggest underdog story in Sports History.

If he puts up 30/12/10 today and wins, he's EASILY above Jordan.

The only time Jordan had a tougher challenge than LeBron, was in his first 3 years in the league, and we all know how that turned out (1-9)

What's funny is, everything said here were stone-cold irrefutable facts, which is why you won't see any haters to rebut you.

They know it will be the greatest achievement ever based off those facts, so they couldn't even possibly argue it. All they have left to do is throw their proverbial mouthpieces and meltdown. :lol

LeBron already made 3ball retire, and pretty soon every other 40-year-old reject MJ stan will follow suit and never show their hideous adult acne faces around ISH ever again.

RAGEQUIT! :lol :oldlol:

I'm not ranking him just because of rings, I'm ranking in how he performed throughout his career.
And it's extremely stupid to use the argument put him in today's game. You have to judge player's career in the context of his era, not how would he perform against allen iverson or tmac or somebody else, it's just illogical
There were people taller than him, stronger than him and faster than him in his day, yet he still was better and considerably. Guy is like the greatest G7 performer of all time and arguably the greatest finals performer of all time.
When you think about it, it's hard to make an argument against Russel being the undisputed GOAT

OP posting drunk again. That ship has sailed for Lebron boys. Sorry.

I don't have an issue when people want to talk top 10 or top 5 status as his talent level is right up there with anyone.

But undisputed GOAT doesn't have the mishaps that Bron has had throughout his career. You simply don't erase that just because you win down the line.

How mad is OP right now knowing that a win for Lebron does nothing for him in surpassing MJ?

After the game when Cavs lose, he will make a thread saying

"This loss doesn't matter because Lebron wasn't going to catch MJ anyway".

What a MELTDOWN!

If LeBron wins, he helps his own legacy, but he also helps Jordan's legacy by making the 72-10 (87-13) Bulls even more untouchable. So basically, if LeBron wins, Jordan wins.

If LeBron loses, Jordan still benefited from having the Cavs extend the series, bringing Golden State's overall record down to 89-17.

He'd be a rich man's joakim noah, who was 1st team all-nba and dpoy in 2014.

so hell yes russell would have more impact than lebron

Russell has 11 championships but Robery Horry has 7 as well.

Russell was the best player on his team AND the entire league, while Horry was a role player and never better than 5th best on his team.

You can't rank someone just because of rings.

That only applies to role players - guys like Horry and Derek Fisher have many rings, but they don't compare to all-stars obviously, let alone all-time greats.

Otoh, when comparing two players who are the best players on their team, ring comparisons are the most important factor.

Russell played in a watered-down era

Russell played in an 8-team league - so only the top 100 players made the league.. Otoh, today's 30-team league has over 500 players, so 400 guys in today's game wouldn't make the league in 1960.

Russell played Wilt's Sixers 12 times per season - can you imagine Lebron playing Durant or the Spurs 12 times per season?... Obviously, Lebron's stats would be worse in a 100-player league where he plays the Spurs 12 times a year.

Russell played when more shots were attempted per game (also the reason players averaged so many rebounds).

You have gross misperceptions about basketball.. 3-pointers need to be more OPEN, so today's teams need to run more offense to get open looks - that's why pace is slower today.

In the 2-pointer eras, pace was much faster because teams settled for one contested 2-pointer after another - notice that FG% was lower when there was no spacing and everyone shot contested 2-pointers.
