I thought they're suppose to have Bill Russell hand out the finals MVP award, then Silver just handed it to Lebron himself.

Bill Russell was standing at the side having nothing to do. What's the purpose of flying him east/west 3 times?

Did Silver make a mistake by handing out the Finals MVP himself instead of letting Bill Russell do it?

It's pretty obvious. This was a transitional moment. It wont be the "Bill Russell FMVP" much longer. It will soon be named the "King James FMVP".

They still wanted Bill Russell there bc people are used to seeing him, but eventually this honor will be entirely about LeGOAT.
