Should have been higher to be honest.

One of the greatest sporting events in recent memory. The Superbowl was boring compared to this.

If you like sports, it doesn't get too much better than last night's game 7 NBA Finals. It was an unbelievable game and an unbelievable achievement ,by the Cavaliers, to pull it out and win after being down 3-1, especially versus a 73 win championship defending team. WOW! You can't make this stuff up.

Source: Numbers I'm seeing for a Game 7 overnight is in the neighborhood of 18.9, which would be tops for an NBA Final game since 1998. via John Ourand (Twitter)

Soo, just posted by jlip:

Most watched NBA Finals game since Gm 6 of the 1998 Finals

Darren Rovell ESPN Senior Writer

"30.8 million viewers watched Game 7 on ABC last night, most since MJ's last game on the Chicago Bulls (Game 6, 1998)"

Darren Rovell ESPN Senior Writer

"At its peak, 13.7 percent of the US was watching Game 7, a crazy number given the options we have today vs what we had in the past."

Haha! Game of Thrones hit their peak too, right? I think it was the most watched episode in the show's history. NBA and GoT still got record breaking numbers despite being on at the same time. Imagine if they did not compete!

Ratings for 1998 Finals were higher, the highest EVER I believe.

Ratings for 1998 Finals were higher

That's cuz of two things.

1. Weak era. No streaming through the internet and no Game of Thrones. Competition was weak.

2. The NBA on NBC theme was GOAT. Unfair advantage:

These Jordan fanboys refuse to believe that the NBA is more popular now than it was before, the proof is here!

Nah, people tuned in because the Jazz made the Finals by defeating Shaq's 4 all-star Lakers, Popovich/Duncan's 56-win Spurs, and Hakeem's Rockets.. That's three top 10 all-time players.

So Jordan was the underdog and people were biting their nails either hoping for fearing he would lose for the first time at the highest rung of competition (the Finals).

But it didn't happen due to the most clutch play the game has ever seen - so everyone got their money's worth whether they were cheering for or against him.

A few things.

1. Duncan wasn't considered to be top 10 at that time. Dude was a rookie. Plus the Spurs doe? Not much hype.

2. Give ppl of the 90s internet streaming on the level we have today, and they be like

3. Give ppl Game of Thrones and they be like  Though you'll have time paradox since GRRM didn't write book 3-5 in 1998. Give them Storm of Swords and they be like  and then give them the show and they be like

4. NBA on NBC. NBC>ABC on hype. Unfair advantage. ABC can't compete with that theme.

To sum it up, internet wasn't as advance thus no streaming. No Game of Thrones. GRRM didn't reach his peak of A Song of Ice and Fire. NBC>ABC on hype. So, the only way to watch it is through TV on NBC.

Thus it was a weak era. TV isn't competing with streaming. The NBA wasn't competing with Game of Thrones on their biggest and highest rated episode so far. Plus ABC don't have the hype level that NBC does.

You lose here 3ball. Go to youtube and rewatch MJ games and remember that you couldn't do that in the 90s. :pimp:
