play basketball for a living? it really is a kids sport. and its not like they are in control of their work either, they still are employed by the white man. I came to this realization after seeing a video of the cavs celebrating in vegas and how cringy the pretentiousness of the hiphop scene has become. thes guys are little kids who have the IQ of your average highschooler.

I don't see any problem with respecting pro athletes for being skilled at their particular craft. I think it's a little crazy how much money they make, but you can say that about lots of professions. You really think the CEO of Exxon Mobil should make $40 million a year? Guy got a BS from UoT. Pushes papers and tells lies for a living. :oldlol:

I think it's hard to say. However, since I work in high finance, I'll give you my generic answer to these questions (although usually it's directed towards my profession, not CEOs)

When you suggest that a CEO shouldn't make 40 million a year, you assume that you know what's good for the economy. However, by that logic, wouldn't a central planner work? The only way to tell what is good for the economy and how good it is, by the efficient markets hypothesis, is by compensation, and evidently the free market suggests the CEO is worth that much.

Now, I know it sounds bullshit, but trust me, it's an easy way to shut up those assholes who shit on you just because you say you're a banker when it's THEM that asked you what you did for a living.

My only point was that the market determines how much these companies, and their employees make. That doesn't mean society places them on a pedestal. NBA players make a lot of money, because the NBA makes a lot of money. The CEO of Exxon Mobil makes a lot of money, because Exxon Mobil makes a lot of money. The amount of money these individuals make for a living doesn't necessarily reflect their value to society.
