View Full Version : Why did Westbrook - Durant never click together?

Why? It took Lebron - Wade 2 years to win, Lebron - Irving one year to win ( Irving was injured year one). Kobe - Shaq 4 years to win.
They rank closer to Melo - Iverson then any of those combos above.

They've never clicked? Wtf are you talking about?
You don't get to the finals in 2012 without your two best players clicking, nor do you come within one game to beat a 73 win team without your best players clicking.
2012 - Lose to Lebron + Wade's Heat team who are just flat out better and more experienced
2013 - Westbrook injury
2014 - Westbrook was injured for half of the season, and Ibaka was injured for a few playoff teams; lost to the eventual champs in 6.
2015 - Durant injury
2016 - Lost to 73 win team
They click fine, it's just that they've been losing to teams that are better. Ain't no shame in losing to the 2012 Heat, 2014 Spurs and 2016 Warriors.
This is like saying Stockton and Malone never clicked because they couldn't win together. No... They clicked, it's just that they lost to better teams.

Nah there's definitely shame in losing to that shitty 2012 Heat squad. A team that wasn't half as good as its 2011 version and barely beat a Celtics squad they crushed the prior postseason.
But no shame in losing 4-1 to the 2011 GOAT Mavs.

They did click. How much can you really click? You'll rarely, if ever have two guys who completely cover each other's weaknesses.
I remember in the 2011 playoffs vs the Mavs, Harden fouled out near the end of a game and the team completely fell apart. Once Harden left it was obvious that neither Westbrook or Durant really knew how to manage a game.
- gamble when they didnt need to
- not give teammates any touches for extended periods (they sucked but still)
- horrible shot clock mgmt
- horrible awareness in general (are we in the penalty? how much time left in the Q, who has the hot hand, etc)
Durant, but especially Westbrook improved a ton in this area this year. There were so many times Westbrook saw plays develop that he wouldnt before. Also, when Westbrook would get hot he was really good at playing the decoy and getting guys like Adams easy buckets. They just fell apart vs the Warriors tho. Shit happens.

They do click, it's just not efficiently. The biggest problem is they take turns doing ISO and one becomes passive when it's the other's turn.

Now I know you're a retard.
The Heat in 2012 were much better with a better version of Lebron and far better role players than 2011. The Celtics took them to 7 because they were missing Chris Bosh. Let's not forget the 2008 Celtics were taken to 7 by the fking Hawks.
