He's probably going to be mediocre as hell again, but I don't care.

This is probably his last season.

It doesn't lock in that he is coming back though, wasn't today the deadline or something

So nice, he needs to play one more year, and bring Spurs another title before retiring. He will retire like David Robinson's last year, it will be a perfect story.

Duncan isn't as good as he used to be.

He got injured last season in the latter half. Before that, he was looking like the DPOY and was balling out of his mind for a 40 year old. He will be back healthy and rested again this time, playing at a much higher level than he was after coming back from injury last year. If the 28 year old UMVP gets the benefit of the doubt for a minor sprain, then a 40 year old top 5 GOAT should get one as well.

Trade LMA, 41 year old Duncan is still better than soft LMA.

He needs to retire.

Not really, he can still put in 10 minutes a game for 2-4 more years.

Opting in doesn't mean he's definitely back. He could still retire and he'd get his salary for this year.

As if any other all-time great could bring the same production if they didn't retire sooner. I'm certain 90% of all HOFs could have played 10 quality minutes if they chose to keep playing several more years after their initial retirement. Difference is most of them had the grandeur to leave once they realized they were way past their best.

Nothing special Tim is doing here.

I hope he comes back because:

- he's an obvious fan favorite and the goat spur
- he plays a position where he doesn't need to handle the rock much
- he can still defend and rebound well and is efficient
- he's experienced and a good presence for the younger guys
- at this age I'm sure he understands his smaller role
- he's ****ing tim duncan

spurs were expecting duncan to take another paycut to accommodate durant's contract

Name another ATG that did that at that age. Don't worry, I'll wait.

The only trouble with using those two stats is they are based on 100 possessions. If you are only playing 20 minutes a night.... the numbers are extremely overrated.

Similar to using per 40 or per 48 for players because everyone knows that they don't play that much and fatigue etc sets in.....

But there are only two reasons for him to retire:

1) He doesn't feel he is a star anymore (a la going out on top)

2) His body is breaking down and the grind is too much

He has never given me the indication of number 1. And he is pretty healthy.

Its pretty funny how people forget he only had 2 good Finals series in his entire career (1999 and 2003)

2005 Finals (80.8 pace)
21 pts 14 rebs 2 asst 2 blk against one of the best defensive teams ever (including multiple time DPOY Ben Wallace) doesn't rate as good?

I'm guessing you're a GSW fan - so any of GSW's players have a better Finals (92 pace) than that?

20 ppg on 40% shooting is NEVER good smh

Stop trying to paint it as good.

He basically was the same as 2007 lebron in the finals, would you say lebron had a good finals that year?

20 seasons is a nice even number, I would do it too.

These Spurs man. Unbelievable to play at the level they still do after all these years. I bet that means Manu comes back another year too.

He can retire and still get paid.
