View Full Version : If Steph played in the 90's...

would he be any better than Reggie Miller?
This past Finals was the first time in about 2 years that we saw any team get even remotely physical with Stephanie, and we saw an 8 point drop off in his ppg average.
It's kind of hard to imagine him being better than Reggie in the 90's considering the physicality was MUCH worse back then. I'd say he averages around 20 ppg tops during his peak season

I dislike Curry as much as the next guy but this is getting ridiculous.
Curry had a terrible Finals, but stop acting like he didn't average 30 for a season on insane efficiency.

When his jumper isn't falling, he's absolute trash. But the truth is his jumper is falling more times than not.

Put the current Warriors in the 90s he'd be the 2nd best player.

If Reggie Miller played in the 2010's...

would he be back to back unanimous MVP of the league?

You really don't think Curry's peak was better than those guys?

I guess it would also depend on what part of the 90s, I couldn't put him over Hakeem.

Don't get too cocky, Lebron would also struggle mightly to score in the 90s without a jumper or post game.

Lebron would be LJ then too, but the OG LJ - Larry Johnson, in terms of scoring, would struggle to hit 20 consistantly with no jumper and no post game.

Nah, Lebron would be a blend of Penny and Kemp, with a little Tim Hardaway sprinkled in

Johnson + Mugsy were beast though

LJ is a decent comparison. Or a lesser Grant Hill.

LeBron wouldn't even be a starter in the '90's tbh

There isn't a single team in NBA history LeBron wouldn't start on. Get the **** out of here.

Tip to Bron stans: If you prop up Curry, it'll make the Cavs win look even more impressive.

Hard to prop Curry after that dreadful Finals performance

40 ppg on 55 percent from 3, 75 percent ts... chitty defensive era, and watered down overall.

I think he'd be better. Less advanced defense, shortened 3 point line era, and he'd be a complete shock to the system of players in the 90s due to lack of exposure to such a shooter. Also a smaller talent pool worldwide wide to select from makes the average players infinitely worse than what we have currently.

My roommate who is a casual NBA fan at best asked me the same question the other night, both of us growing up in the 90's with his knowledge of Reggie being greater than his of Curry.

Curry is obviously a better shooter off the dribble, Reggie better catch and shoot off the screen. Curry's struggle with the physical defenses of OKC and the Cavs in the finals proves how much better Miller was moving off the ball and getting jumpshots.

Once again this debate has been brought up many time through out the year.

How does a shorter 3pt line benefit Curry? Essentially it is a non factor. He shoots really deep. The fact the line is closer means nothing except he would have more trouble getting shots off at the actual magin of the line due to more congestion in the smaller area inside the line.

He would struggle.

He averaged 25.5ppg this year

They would take away his post game and traffic drives because of how physical it would be. leaving him with a base of about 25.4ppg down from this years 25.5ppg.

Then he would probably get another 15ppg from the lack of perimeter defenders. leaving him on about 350ppg.

Curry is overall a better shooter, but let me tell you, if I need one of them to make a 3 to save my life, yes I am picking Reggie.

He'd be a 'steroid' version of prime Mark Price. And to be clear, that shouldn't be taken as a diss. Price was one of the best shooters, great ballhandler, and was deceptively quick and shifty. He made an artform out of splitting P-N-R defense.

Two contradictory statements ....
He's your MVP player last two years and as you state if his jumper push shot isn't working he's trash.... what does that say about your NBA league.

He'd be the 2nd best player in the 90's
Half the league would of destroyed him , because they would physically whip his AS$.

I agree when the game is on the line I would rather have Reggie. He had that killer instinct that Curry just doesn't have.

After his game 6 ejection I was waiting to see it... I'm still waiting.
