This guy was an LEO, so I'm curious if he was armed. Anyways, if his companion was armed he'd probably be alive today. A .357 or 10mm may or may not kill a bear but it will give it a serious attitude adjustment. The shot alone would likely scare off the bear. I can't imagine going into the woods without a sidearm.
