A good big man is still the most valuable piece in the game. Just like when we were kids, the biggest guys, no matter how far behind they were in skills, were often the most effective, because they were simply bigger.

Now, tactics have changed to try and make the big man as redundant as possible if you're the opposing coach. It is a pick and roll league, and they try and exhaust the big man as much as possible.

People talk about big men from previous eras feasting on the current, but I just don't see it. Pick and rolls, a quicker, more mismatch centric game forces the big man into positions they generally aren't good at.

I mean can you guys imagine Shaq, Ewing, Malone, Dikembe, Daugherty having the pick and roll run on them all game? That is literally what coaches would run all game these days to get these bigger, more flat footed guys out of the game.
