Makes ton of sense, Think Raptors can build over last year. They got experience. Will still be 2nd best team in east .

I thought he would move on, but good for Raptors. If Beal is getting $25 million, DeRozan should get something similar.

It's getting ridiculous now. But if you think the amount of money free agents are getting this season is insane, wait until the salary cap goes up again to $110 mil from $94 mil...

How so?

Lakers made a wise decision to not give it to this overpayment spree that's occuring. They can get 3/4 of Derozan's production from someone else for 30% of the price.

Players like Derozan are going to be making more than Wade, CP3, etc. did in their careers. :facepalm

Nearly $30M/yr... :facepalm

What else is Toronto supposed to do? Free agents don't want to play in Canada. The Raps are a LeBron James death from going to the Finals. Might as well keep the core together.

Part of this is because he took a paycut for 4 years to be in Miami.

JV should fire his agent.

139 mil/5yr isn't too bad considering the salary cap is expected to increase to like 107mil in 2018, this contract isn't so cancerous as some people are making it to be. Especially when guys like Mike Conley are getting more when they haven't even made an all star team.

This contract would be the equilivant of 18mil/yr a couple days ago. Is it too much? IMO yes, but it's an amount id be pretty comfortable giving to a 27 year old all star guard.

I just feel bad for the Durants and Lebrons of the league.... Getting the same salary as Mike fking Conley.... At least they'll get more money through endorsements.

No brainer on both counts - him staying and him getting the max. If he can continue to slowly but steadily improve, then this contract will be well worth it.

The Lakers didn't make any wise decisions, Demar didn't give them the opportunity. Whos giving you Demars production at that price? He's only 26 and shows improvements every year. Your best hope for 3/4 the production is bring Kobe back for 30% more.

Go back to your Clarkson/Mozgov threads.

I was thinking about this today too.. Come to the conclusion that every player signing these new huge contracts owes about 5% to Lebron, and another 6-8% divided between your Durants and Curry's of the League.

The problem is that Derozan just isn't that good. Unless he adds a 3 point shot or changes how he plays...he just won't ever come close to the impact you need out of a contract like this.

Nothing else the Raptors could really do...I just don't think Derozan is nearly as good as some do. Would just love to see him cut down on those mid range jumpers and long 2's...he doesn't shoot it well enough. And in the playoffs...the defense is just that much better and more shots are contested...and his game inherently is going to struggle to be efficient.
