Highest volume of any player in the league (FG's defended at the rim)

Has a very good DFG% that rivals Whiteside, Deandre, Marc Gasol, Duncan, Bismack, Favors, Davis

Eye test told me this alone, I wrote about it before and in that thread all the dumbasses exposed themselves by calling Gasol a bad defender.

stats tell everything these days. smh......so great of a rim protector yet no one is mentioning it. Best rim protector since hakeem. Finished top 3 in the defensive player of the year the last 10 years and still hasn't won it. Was the anchor on the best defensive team last year (bulls). LMAO

stop it.....great offensively but defense has always eluded pau.

I don't even think he can protect his own rim. He's been awful defender for several years now, and was never that good to begin with.

The stats are right there and they still deny it

Pau is a TOP RIM PROTECTOR

Part of being a good rim protector is NOT letting the other team take a high volume of shots in that area....

so why isn't anyone recruiting him or signing him for his rim protection?

You mean to tell me 30 Gms, thousands of scouts/analysts and everyone else is blind to pau being a TOP RIM PROTECTOR???

A decorated career in the nba and internationally and pau has never been lauded as a rim protector.....but according to you and another dummy he is because of some bs stat you found. OK

He is a good rim protector because he backs up on PnRs. Rather than come out and defend PnRs like the rest of the league he gives space and allows the shot without defense. He defends the drive well, but is also giving unfettered jumpers. Which was fine back when everyone and their mother weren't 3 pt shooters.

That's how he is both a POOR defender and good at the rim.

PAU was the 2010 FINALS MVP :applause:

We all knew the guy was a good defender.. :applause:

Pau Gasol 2016 3pt defense: 31.4%

1 attempt defended a game

Rethink that logic

That's more of a question about the state of team defense, specifically perimeter defense

In 2025 he'll be out of the top 15.

Is he a great rim protector of the dudes in front of him...Yes! Awesome at it.

I watch nearly every Bulls game and the amount of weak side cuts deployed against him and his lack of P&R catchup defense is what is so frustrating. Throw the ball behind him and its an easy bucket EVERY time. I know that can be said against most defenders...but good teams figured out to attack him that way constantly.

ok so that makes him a horrible rim protector. If you can be exploited that means you aren't good at something...you are perceived or seem to be good at something but once the smoke clears you suck. There is no way someone could have played basketball at the highest level for what 16 seaons now and all of sudden millions of people go it wrong...pau is a top rim protector.

next we will be calling dirk a great rim protector too.....smh

So he isn't defending them. I don't see how that is material at all. On PnRs at the 3 pt line he is below the FT line so any shot generated would be considered uncontested. Saying he is great at the rim because he gives up uncontested 3s is a little disingenuous.

advanced defensive metrics are not good indicators of overall defensive ability.

He is a great big man/low post defender and I mean GREAT the stats prove it, opponents shoot much worse against him one on one, but he is not a good pnr defender and he is kinda weak in rotating weakside, much of which I think is lack of motivation because of too few touches with the selfish ball hog Butler.

Pau is a poor man's Duncan. Both are super long so they don't need to go for many pump fakes and they are fundamentally sound on offense.

Yes, but Gasol is better than Duncan on offense and significantly worse on defense, where Duncan is one of the all time best.

Prime Duncan was better offensively in his prime. Pau is better currently overall.
