If he were healthy that first round series vs OKC would have gone 7 games.

I do trust Powell and Anderson so much .
Can we skip looking for players this year and just look for a new GM?
Actually, looking for a new owner wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I don't see how the market would have been higher than 9 million a year for Powell with a player option actually.
The problem with the deal is that if he gets good...that player option looms large.
If you are going to beat the market price for Powell like that...you don't give up a player option in the 4th year. Maybe early reports of the player option were wrong though.
Mavs apparently didn't learn their lesson from the Parsons terrible contract with that 3rd year option that just destroyed us.

This. D-Will 1 yr 10 mill is amazing. No risk. great value.
Powell's contract might not look too great now, but I see him taking a step this year and will easily be worth that contract during the next couple of years.

You are worried about the 4th year on Powell's contract? Seriously?
Sometimes I think you nitpick so much. As my Ag teacher used to always say:
"You'd b*tch if you were hung with a new rope."
You are just one of those guys.

Yea....I guess I was too worried about that Parsons deal as well...right?
Just after I responded to you I googled Powell signing and found this from Mavs moneyball;
This makes no sense. The Mavericks' front office has had a rough offseason so far, but this might be the worst decision yet and it has nothing to do with Dwight Powell as a player. It has to do with basic NBA economics and the fact that Powell was a restricted free agent. Dallas tendered a qualifying offer to Powell, and while someone surely would have thrown him an offer sheet, what team out there really planned on giving Powell more than four at $9 million per year!? Because even if they offer him the exact same deal Dallas did, which we agree is quite a bit, the Mavericks could have just matched the contract.
I'm not saying it is a terrible contract...I don't think it is nearly as bad as this guy does. I simply don't like it though.

If the Mavs wanted him back, they would have signed him. He left the same way Chandler/Nash/etc left. The Mavs did not want to offer him a contract that he felt he was worth.
Simple as that.

Exactly. Which is why signing him to a 2 year deal essentially was such a mistake. You leave yourself open to having to max a guy or lose him for nothing.
Did you read the bold above? I'm not anywhere close to as negative on this deal as that guy, but there are legit reasons why this wasn't a great move.

As it is, Mavs are gonna struggle to even reach the minimum cap, so who cares about a couple of mills? Anyway, this better means Carlisle is ready to give the kid some minutes.
