View Full Version : Why we shouldn't hate Kevin Durant (unless you're an OKC fan of course)

I imagine KD has just become the most hated player in the NBA today. Assuming he receives the level of vitriol LeBron did in joining Miami, this is very unfortunate for him, as no one deserves that kind of negative attention and ridiculously inconsistent standards being held to them. The object of the NBA is to win a championship and Durant is giving himself what he sees as the best opportunity to do so. I'm aware this is a ridiculous comparison, but when I played soccer in 3rd grade, the team I was on was 8-0, and clearly better than anyone else we played. Never bothered me nor struck me as "cheap". For ****'s sake, I can't stand losing. I don't think joining a team with other stars is necessarily bad. Remember, super teams rarely are as dominant as we always expect them to be. I do find it odd, because of GS being the team that defeated OKC. At least for me, If I was Durant, I would resign in OKC and try to beat them because I'd be super butthurt about that series :lol So that is definitely a reason I understand why he'll be criticized. Let's remember that Durant is a grown man, and can make his own choices, and that he is one of the best players ever and doesn't deserve to be discredited due to a decision he made while he's still only in his 20's.

I have no doubt that you and your fellow Heat fans remember vividly that Lebron was by far one of the most disliked athletes in the world following The Decision; possibly more so than Tiger Woods was at that time after all his infidelity nonsense.

People got over it and loved him again and anyone who tries to put asterisks on those Miami titles is just the worst sort of basketball fan.

Same thing will happen with KD if he wins. People will get over it.

At least he wasn't born and raised in Oklahoma and made a 1 hour ESPN special to announce he was leaving.

I just find it hilarious, honestly to see the fans scrambling to get everyone to either love or hate his decision. This just makes the Cavs road to a championship harder but I do have faith this team will crash and burn. Too many chefs in the kitchen.

People won't hate on Durant as much because he's not a Jordan level player. Simply no one cares as much.

Yeah for sure. I haven't always been a fan of KD, but he's grown on me for sure (having him on your fantasy team helps :D) and I never really agreed with the idea many fans seem to have that if you're a superstar you have to win all by yourself in order to be "legit".

The object is to beat and become the best, not join them to beat up on weaker competition.

I dont think you quite want to face the huge difference of a situation that is, just because you dont want to get upset...

Yeah, although Durant's decision was worse from a competitive standpoint in that he joined the team that defeated him, he handled this infinitely better than LeBron did (LBJ was a goddamn idiot about the whole Decision thing)

**** me for defending Durant's right to sign wherever he wants? :lol

I'm all good man. I would have preferred he signed with the Heat obviously, but it's his choice. LeBron's legacy is set now, so he doesn't need to win anymore anyways.

:kobe:

The object is to win. Where is it written that you have to follow some "moral code" and make sure you're not being "unfair" to the rest of the league? This is what the Yankees always do :lol
