View Full Version : Serious Discussion: Who's going to be the #1 option on the Warriors?

Durant is the better player, but Curry had been the number one option on GSW. Curry is also the two time reigning MVP, and has more accolades and better resume than Durant. Curry in the regular season is also not that much worse than Durant, as he had a better regular season last year than Durant has ever had.
I think the logically answer is Curry remains #1 option, Durant #2, Klay #3. Now is Klay going to be happy about that? Not sure.

I don't think we'll be able to tell. Kerr runs a lot of plays to get Klay open in the first quarter.
Sometimes Klay looks like he's the first option on back screens/curls/post ups.
Curry/Durant usually get their points rather quietly.
So between those three, I'm not quite sure.
I think Curry/Durant dont have any problems deferring.

Not sure how you feel like a player that scored 37 points in one quarter "defaults" to a 3rd option.
We have to change how we think about player roles.

Curry handed the team over to KBandwagon
According to a person who saw the text messages, Curry told Durant in a text message that he could care less about who is the face of the franchise, who gets the most recognition or who sells the most shoes (Curry is with Under Armour, Durant with Nike). The two-time NBA MVP also told Durant that if Durant won the MVP award again he would be in the front row of the press conference clapping for him.
In closing, Curry's message to Durant was that all he truly cared about was winning championships and he'd like to do that as his teammate.

Curry is literally the Anti-Lebron if those texts are true. Dude just wants to win.
Ultimate teammate. I see why KD joined. How could he turn that down?
Win-Win for everyone.

Durant. Point guards are not first options which has been proven in the playoffs.

Durant is the best scorer on that team.

KD and Steph will be 1a/1b like Kobe and Shaq

Shaq was always the consensus best player... it will be much closer between Durant and Curry, have to see how they co-exist.

True. I think KD will probably be slightly more of "first" option just bc Steph can play off ball a lot

Durant should be the number one option, at least in the clutch, on account of his mid-range shooting ability and height to just rise up over just about any defender. Durant will average 27, Curry 25, and Klay will be in the 18-19 range.
And, the matchup on a given night will play into it as well. But really, there are about 28 other teams that would love to have this 'problem'.

Don't think we should put clutch in the same sentence with Curry or Durant with the shit that we just saw from both of them.
Klay, honestly looks more poised than Curry at times. I think Curry shuld legit facilitate primarily and not focus on scoring....even though he's a premiere scoring threat.

Durant and Curry both play off ball alot. Durant kills weakside/strong side help that isn't paying attention on rotations.
Steph literally breaks people's ankles when he back doors his defender or brushes/flares off screens.
I really think that Curry shouldn't average those types of points next season. Need more balance.

That's really more of an aberration though, isn't it? The majority of teams don't have the ability to make Durant or Curry look bad in the clutch, and they eliminated that problem in one swoop having them play together.
Klay doesn't have the iso skills to be the number one option, nor should he have to be with Durant and Curry on the team. Though I do agree, sometimes it sppears as though Klay is more even-keel in pressure moments.

Maaaaaan......
Klay is improving EVERY SINGLE SEASON I SEE HIM. Dude comes back with something new all the time. He also finishes well through contact because of his size and perceived strength.
He kills people on the low block with his turn around
He has a quick first step for the people that wanna close out on him hard
He has decent court vision.
Imagine if he picked up ball-handling this offseason....
Additionally, Kerr runs the majority of his plays for Klay in the first quarter anyway. I'm not so sure if he's lock for a "3rd option" on offense. 37 points in a quarter also says otherwise.
Gonna be a fun season

I came to like Klay more than Steph by the end of the WCFs. Steph is obviously flashier and more 'dynamic' if you will, but just on pure shooting I think Klay can get slightly hotter and I like his general demeaner.

Curry just had one of the most clutch seasons of all time.
The behind the back pass in Game 7 erased most of my memory of anything clutch moment he had.

Huh? Which year when Kobe and Shaq played together was Shaq not seen as the better player?
He is called the most dominant ever for a reason.
