Are they just going to try to keep that 2017 pick or something lol.
JC is a great guy and I guess he'll be happy to play some minutes collecting checks. Lakers are paying JC/Deng/Mozgov like $43M next year or something. That's crazy lol.

How about them Mavs stuck in mediocrity for the remainder of Dirk's contract. It will only get darker for you once he retires and you have absolutely no young assets to show for it... By that point the Laker youngings will be percolating.

I hope they traded Young for this.
Either way, yall need to quit acting like the Lakers office are thinking they're making monumental moves. They know they aren't, but the most important thing to do right now is to surround their young players with players that exude professionalism and veteran respect. Deng and Calderon are two players that command that kind of presence that Russell, Clarkson, Randle, and Ingram would nourish from.

I guess this means Huertas is not coming back. I actually preferred Huertas resigning as the backup pg. Looks like they're just trying to reach the salary floor. I guess there could've been worse moves like signing Raymond Felton to a 4 year 40 million deal, etc
I hope Lakers got a draft pick from the Bulls to take on Calderon

Guess they really will be bottom feeders the next few years. Hopefully they at least got rid of young

And they re-signed Huertas.
So now they have a rookie PG who should be getting max minutes to develop... being backed up by two veteran PG's who should be coming off the bench for a playoff team.

Lakers could have gotten to the salary floor by signing guys like Solomon Hill, Lance Thomas, or Galloway. I get why they did this, but don't get why they couldn't make smarter signings.
I mean Henderson for $18M/2 years makes a heck of a lot more sense than trading for Calderon or signing Mozgov to a massive deal. They could have gotten Asik for free if they wanted an over-the-hill C.

They did it because they're getting at least one, maybe two, second round draft picks. The only thing the Lakers seem to be good at is drafting.

The only thing the Lakers seem to be good at is drafting.I get why they traded for Calderon now that their main targets got scooped up, but they could have made smart value signings betting on some young potential instead of paying big bucks for vets.
They're paying like $55M next year to Calderon/Williams/Young/Deng/Mozgov. That's like 59% of the salary cap. Granted, those contracts don't last forever.
And yeah, getting a pick or two in return is fine in a salary dump. But I think I'd rather have somebody like Hill or Lance Thomas than Calderon & 1 2nd rounder. Now if this is a good pick they got back, then that's a different story...

And If not starting they'll at least want minutes. And on this team the veterans aren't getting the bulk of the minutes hopefully.

7 PPG, 4 Assists per game. He'll make $7.7M for the year. This after signing a declining Luol Deng (12 PPG) for $18M/year. I may eat my words, but along with Mozgov, this seems like a really, really bad team.

All these guys suck and are a waste of money but so are Mozgov and Deng. Would have rather thrown some money at Allen Crabbe and done the same deal for Bogut that Dallas made. Oh and the Calderon deal.

Oh and the Calderon deal. They make the same amount as Calderon, but with upside and can play D, unlike most on this roster. These guys are the value signings who will look cheap in 18 months. Agree on Crabbe though.
Getting a 1-year rental of Bogut would have made a heck of a lot more sense than to give out a worse version of the Chandler/Asik contracts. What pick did LAL get back in exchange for taking on Calderon?

This team is all about Ingram/Russell/Randle/Clarkson. They won't be contending or attracting superstar free agents for a while so I don't see what all the fuss is about their acquisitions. Yeah the Mozgov price/years is bad, but it's not going to affect anything. The FLOOR is $80M. Let the lottery picks we have actually show signs of being all stars before we worry about pairing other stars with them.

SMH, this team looks like shit as of right now...and the 5on5 scrimmage video looked horrible, as well (our young guys...). We might just get another top 3 pick next season.

So apparently the Lakers just traded draft rights of a random player for Calderon and two future second-round picks?
Am I missing something here?

Have no idea how this helps LA save for potential veteran leadership and savvy, but even then, they would've been better off trading for someone that could actually still play.

Internet GM's over here. The lakers aren't competing next year. They got TWO, second round picks to absorb a small 7 mill expiring contract for a vet who can still shoot and teach a few things.
It was a good deal for Mitch. Mozgov is the only retard deal IMO
ALBballer
07-07-2016, 09:23 AM
This is actually a good deal for the Lakers. They get a solid vet that can help develop Russel and Clarkson and get some picks out of the deal.
Signing Deng at a multi-million dollar deal to teach the young players was a terrible move. Best case scenario he has a great start and Lakers trade him and acquire more assets.

Deng was a little overpriced but they were seeking for vets who could bring that experience and work into the lockerroom.
As for this trade, its actually a great move.
The Lakers had to meet the minimum cap, and they got it by trading for an expiring contract who's going to be a great veteran presence to the young guys... and they got two 2nd rounders in return? GG.

Calderon ain't developing shit, no way Jose.

1 yr left on his contract, but comes with 2 2nd round picks (mitch loves finding those diamonds in the rough)
basically a whatever move. and at the same time, someone russel can learn from, seeing as jose was once one of the leagues leaders in A/TO ratio. something russel has been less than proficient in thus far
laker fans were ecstatic with huertas play. an extremely fun to watch pnr pg. calderon was once (is?) as good as huertas was in the pnr, but also adds shooting to the team. something marcello legit sucked at. ricky rubio bad.

Nothing that will truly impact his game...this is Jose Calderon we are talking about, dude has never brought any team success being the PG of a team. Not to mention, if Russell couldn't really learn anything from the Mamba, what makes you think he will from Jose?

It's all apart of the Lakers plan.
How else will we recognize the Lakers if opposing point guards aren't going for career highs against them on a nightly basis? That has been the MO for at least the past decade plus. Neither Calderon or Russell can guard anyone faster than Oliver Miller. Get out the popcorn
