View Full Version : Will people really forget the way Durant went about this even if he does win?

I keep seeing posts from people who say once Durant wins, people won't care about how he got to it in the long run.
Is that really true though? I think people are really going to be blah about Durant's legacy going forward thanks to this. :confusedshrug:

Nobody will forget about this, let's be honest. People still bring up "collusion" from the Heat, and this is a whole new level

depends how he wins and how much adversity he faces.

Depends. He probably would be better off losing the first year like Lebron so that doubters/haters can get their due and be silenced if he wins the next year. Thats just reality for the narrative.
He also better make sure the Warriors are HIS team, FMVP and all. If he puts up role player numbers his legacy will be tarnished.
We wont forget, but he better make sure people shut the **** up. See Lebron 2016 ring.

People calling LeBron top 5 GOAT now because of his rings with the Heat... and he got absolutely crushed after "the decision".
no pun intended

Lol nah. Especially in the age of social media.

Lebron had to play well and dominate to win those rings, he also got "lucky" Wade and Bosh missed time while he didnt.
Will Durant have that "luxury"? It's impossible to tell.

I don't see it. But it's hard to tell. I see causal fans saying things like, "What's the big deal? If you had a chance to work for a great company like Google wouldn't you take it?" "He's giving himself the best chance to win, what's wrong with that?"
I guess another way to look at it is, how would Barkley be viewed right now if he joined the Bulls after they beat Phoenix, and Jordan didn't retired. Or Gary Payton after he lost to the 72 win Bulls team.

LeBron didn't join a team that won a year before, or win 73 games the season before he joined. People will definitely remember these three things:
2015 Warriors winning a ring
2016 Warriors winning 73 games
Durant joining 2017
People will remember the Decision more for HOW he did it, rather than the actual basketball move. He was going to a team for a fresh start to beat the Celtics, not join them.
Again, people need to stop comparing LeBron joining the Heat to KD joining the Warriors. The circumstances are pretty ****ing different.

If you compare this to what LeBron did you have an IQ of about 45....
And secondly, if LeBron won his titles playing like 2011...not the clear best player, he would not get remotely the same credit he gets.
LeBron is fortunate Wade was declined in 2012 and dogcrap in 2013

The media decides the narrative. Most of the mainstream media I've watched since Durant made his decision has actually been positive or neutral. History will say the Warriors lost in the NBA Finals, and signed Kevin Durant. If the Warriors go on the win multiple titles, and Durant performs like Durant, his "decision" will be an afterthought.

If he doesn't get finals MVP, it's going to look bad still. Lol at the people talking about LeBron's heat legacy. You know if wade got those finals
Mvps, people would be giving him the Kobe sidekick ring treatment. Durant is getting the respect you think he will unless be becomes the alpha on that team and wins some rings.

 Nobody gives a shit about ESPN tards. Even then, SAS was ripping KD for this
Barkley, MJ, Reggie Miller, and even a lot of present NBA players have called KD out for this essentially saying it's a bitch move. And even then, that shouldn't matter. The history books will remember the Warriors winning a ring, 73 games, and then KD joining them. The fans will remember too. The positive light that the media portrays it in (not even that light tbh) will be outweighed by the fact that KD had to join an already superteam to contend for a championship, and left OKC hanging despite the fact that he choked away a 3-1 lead that would've knocked out said superteam.

Hardcore fans won't forget. We hardly forget anything.
I think the media will be somewhat neutral about it. Watch there be articles defending him, and others saying his ring is tarnished.

Empty ring.
Won't get one anyway.
Karma will play out nicely, Warriors were never gonna get another one once they turned into a team of legit f*ckwits.
Couldn't find a more punchable, beta team.
Choke harder.....oh ya already choked the hardest in NBA history.
Congrats!!

Yea, I think this is the big key. Depending on how big of a role Durant takes in the key situations and whether he gets FMVP or not will really determine this.

It's simply not comparable with LeBron winning in Miami. Durant is joining a team that can win with or without him.
