in another thread we were loosely counting the number of deliberate 'superteams' created in the NBA's history, and it seems to be a lot more common than people usually think.

for example, going back all the way to the late 50's, the dynastic celtics teams of red auerbach were ridiculously stacked (for various reasons) in the echo chamber of an eight-team league. that was really just the beginning tho...

unless maybe it was those lakers teams of the 40's and 50's. they might have come first, but i hardly know a thing about them. george mikan, i guess!
