Ridiculous. How does a guy who isn't even considered a top 5 player in his position become the highest paid player in league history?

Cap on max salaries.

I get that the cap went up,but Mike wasn't even the best free agent this summer. He got a deal like he's a superstar. Has he even made an all star team in his career?

Hes the only guy to take a full max from his current team. Thats all.

Durant went to a diff team, Lebron playing on 1 and 1 contracts.

Hes not gonna be the highest paid for long, just a function of the new cap and unusual circumstances of superstar players right now.

The people who could have been paid more than this before simply turned it down. KG and Shaq types. Guys whos contracts predated the 99 lockout could get eternal raises. KG could have had 30 million in like 05 and had yearly raises go with it but he took a paycut.

I bet if you showed a picture of Conley to random people maybe 1/10 would know who he is.

A no name slightly above average player gets this kind of money, absolutely ridiculous

No way 1 in 10 know conley. No way in hell.

But guys are...for now...being paid superstar money because they have to spend it somewhere. So it isn't really to be a draw.

depends where you go

if you go to a young hip area with lots of guys into sports, like a downtown mall, probably more than 1 in 10

general population, like 1 in 100

Mike Conley playing chess while the rest of the league playing checkers.

Don't be absurd. He's a very good player.

He's a good player, but not even an All Star...it's insane.

Is he the first non all-star to ever get a max contract?

What's insane is that he's never been an all-star.

Is he not the best 2-way pointguard in the NBA?

This may have been the dumbest of a lot of dumb signings. Fortunately it's not my money, so I don't care. Frankly, good for him. If any billionaire ever offers to drastically overpay me for something I won't say no either.
