yea, once the scouting report is out with better player, a lot of those passes are going to be turnovers. Its not even like he is just a bad shooter, he isnt even a shooter. He just won't shoot.

He is only played I've seen positively effected by the defensive 3 second call because defenders can't just sag into the paint and leave him open from 14 feet. He is that bad of a shooter.

Yeah man. I mean you're essentially useless if the defense knows you're going to pass the ball. He's going to have a hell of a time adjusting out there with no reliable jumper at all. Like others said he won't even attempt to shoot it.

But he can definitely dish that rock man. But as someone else said once defenses figure him out he's going to be racking up turnovers out there.

Simmons is going to be a turnover machine, especially without any decent teammates.

LeBron was confident that he could actually catch fire with his jumper from time to time, this guy won't even attempt to find a rhythm, bail out shots only!

There is a difference between pounding the ball with the intent of being the sole distributor and creating momentum with the pass before the pass, not saying he won't figure it out but that is what it seems like to me so far.

His rebounding could conceal a lot of his weaknesses too, definitely deserving of the top pick but I'm not crowning him until I see results in real games.

Empty stats all game long and disappearing during crunch time, not impressed!

Simmons can pass but is afraid to shoot. Zubick would actually run away from him to under the basket and he still wouldnt shoot.

Ingram played poorly. Didn't really get many good looks as Russell dominated the ball and made no effort to get him any touches.

Russell got abused by McConnell off the dribble all game. He got hot in the second half and hit a gamewinner (this is after TJ tied the game up on a layup bc Russell was pointed to his arms in transition). He celebrated like it was the NBA Finals, throwing up some sort of signs, screaming and cursing during the interview. I'm trying to like this kid but its very hard.

Nance looks better than Randle to me.

AirTupac
07-09-2016, 10:44 PM
Nance just looks like a stud. Its not a knock on Randle to say Nance should start at the 4. He's 23. He knows what hes doing. He plays like a vet. Mature, calm, hustles for everything, jumps out of the building, rebounds, defence, can shoot.

I'm not trying to be disparaging to Simmons' game, because I think he could be an All-Star in this league with his excellent court vision and mobility for his size .... but any comparison to a young LeBron James should be checked at the door.

He's just not that level of talent. Not particularly close, either. Sixers fans should be thinking more Blake Griffin minus some of the hops, but add in great court vision. That's a damn good player, but it isn't close to James. He was a phenom right out of the gates.

Here he is right out of the gates ... first preseason game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Kl0Z-6HLlw

He didn't have a particularly good night, but just watch the way he moves and his almost innate understanding of where players were on the floor. He's the greatest natural athlete I've ever seen in my lifetime. Not the greatest basketball player, mind you. He's in the Top 10 all-time, imo, with several years of great basketball left. But, the greatest talent, for sure. Any comparison to him is going to make Simmons look underwhelming. That shouldn't be what people expect.

Blake Griffin?

Ingram shot poorly. As did Russell. Russell made a huge long 2 to tie up the game. Instead of getting back to play defense, he started celebrating and McConnell ran all the way in for a layup. Sixers up 2. After that McConnell started trash talking Russell. 1.8 seconds left, Russell catches the inbound and nails the game winning 3 with McConnell draped all over him.

Ice in his veins got haters like you shook

the are very similar passers, except I think Lebron had slightly better placement at 17 when he entered. But other than that Lebron was just better in every way.

Not trying to hate on Simmons, but I agree.

The Lebron comparisons are fair. Even Lebron himself thinks it's a good comparison. You should've watched the game tonight. Simmons has elite passing ability. He even put up a near triple double without a jumpshot.

No doubt!

Simmons can't score the ball (in summer league against scrubs, JIMMER dropped 28 today, come on!), LeBron NEVER struggled to get buckets outside of a few famous instances of mental fragility, there isn't much to compare besides passing skills, and LeBron is the best passing big man next to Magic so its going to take a lot for me to be convinced.

I actually think Simmons is a more creative passer than young Lebron, if that makes sense. Not saying he's a better passer, but there's a smoothness to his passing that you mostly see on pointguards like Nash or Magic. Young Lebron reminded me more of Pippen.

Lebron is a pure point forward. He's a forward with one of the best passing skills of all time, but still obviously a forward. Same thing with Giannis, who's a forward who can play point. Simmons is like a big Rondo at this point... a PG who's 6'10.

I read bold then go back to the part where you say he's not a better passer than Lebron. You compare Ben passing to the likes of Nash, Magic. And Bron of Pippen. Pippen was never as good of a passer as Nash or Magic. I'm so confused. :confusedshrug:

yea they do.. they both cant shoot.. both got handles and feel, open court spin moves galore.. good open court feel, but again .. cant shoot, so no spacing provided, awkward halfcourt.

I'm hesistant to say he's a better passer (in terms of effectiveness, getting his teammates involved, etc.) because he hasn't played an actual game yet. That's literally it. I'm not saying he's worse, I just don't want to judge his complete package as a passer vs Lebron right now.

What I'm just saying is that his creativity (technical passing skills) is actually better than Lebron's, from what I've observed.

Except Ben has more Length, better handles, quicker and better vision

Plus Blake has more vertical and is a better dunker, these two couldn't be any more different

Blake has taken jumpers since college and actually improved his mid range jumper. Ben Simmons still has a small sample size of even attempting jumpers let alone arguing FG%. Blake is not nearly as bad of a shooter as Ben is nor has he ever been. Ben handles are far superior to that of Blake. Ben can run your team in half court, full court.

So yeah not really seeing a comparison between the two at all. I mean is that all you have for comparison sake? You need more than that. Pretty lazy ass comparison brotha :confusedshrug:

they move similarly .. just watchin .. unbiased towards philly.. I dont care what happens to guy or your franchise. i legit feel they move similarly, it's almost uncanny. The spin moves and open court movement.. Simmons has a great feel for the pass I guess, more than blake to compensate for the lack of above the rim explosion.. but without a jumper it's going to be moot. Just like how its been for blake. :confusedshrug:

I'm a Celtics fan and I hate the suxers. But you have to be really lazy or dumb to compare Simmons to Blake. One I would see run an offense in the NBA and handle the ball 80% of the time, and the other would run fast breaks and picks to go for dunks or inside shots

Yeah I saw him play during the del negro years fool. Back then he couldn't average more than 4 ast per game couldn't handle the ball nearly as good as Simmons

alright dude .. they have similar dribble styles, and improv attacking the rim due to lack of shooting. im just callin them like I see them .. multiple other posters said the same thing .. I said same thing from the start. Blake is better finisher, simmons got some more feel for passin.. thats about it. otherwise they move about very similarly.. thats my opinion dummy.

The Blake comparisons break apart for the simple fact that Blake is a big with some guard skills, Simmons is a guard who happens to be big.

Simmons' vision is ELITE by any standard, like his court vision is up there with pretty much anyone this side of CP3 and Rubio. Blake is a great passer for a PF but he's nothing super special. Simmons is capable of being your primary ball handler like a true point forward. Blake is just a big with some crafty dribble moves.

how can simmons be a guard when he's being conceded jumpers worse than evan turner? .. at a certain point .. defenders are only going to guard you at the rim if they see you cant shoot, so you're left playing with the big guys. i also think you're underrating blake griffins handling ability.. he can legit dribble circles around guys if he wants.
