View Full Version : What is the Argument for Kobe over LeBron?

LeBron has 3 more MVPs, 3 rings as the best player on the team, better numbers, and has proven to have miles better than Kobe then it comes to impact on the game (taking s.hiity teams to deep playoff runs, carrying Miami to 13 finals win, Etc). Not sure now some would argue that Kobe was still a better player. If he didn't have the best front court in the league, he was merely just a scoring side show.

ANYTIME Lebron was 48 mins from a series win or championship, HE ALWAYS WON AND WAS THE UNDISPUTED BEST PLAYER OF THE GAME.. ALSO IN EVERY CHAMPIONSHIP WIN EXCEPT 2013, HE SCORED A TRIPLE DOUBLE.. And even in the 2013 he still scored 37 points..
PTS/AST/REB
2012 Finals game 5 stat line - 26-11-13 on 56% TS%
2013 Finals game 7 stat line - 37-4-12 on a GOAT level 69.8% TS%
2016 Finals game 7 stat line - 27-11-11 on 48% TS%
otoh, kobe needed help from one of the GOAT coaches AND goat centers, But lets take shaq out of the equation and evaluate his 2 title clinchers without him..
09 title- 30-5-6 on 43% on shooting :facepalm
10 title - 23-2-15 on 25% shooting :facepalm
And these were for his just 2 mvp winning championships, he was argubaly only the best player for ONE of them AND only had the best final game ONCE .. Lebron NEVER had this problem.. :facepalm

2 extra rings and WOULD have been more if Stern didnt veto the CP trade
I can only IMAGINE what a prime CP3 would have done to Chalmers Cole and the lack of Miami big men :(

Right, with Nash and Dwight barely sniffed playoffs
But with CP3 = dynasty :oldlol:

Wouldn't have to, need to make to conference finals first.

Right, because Kobe actually would let CP3 see the ball :oldlol:
And I love how much Kobe dominated with Dwight and Nash :oldlol:
73-9
there is none.
I had LeBron above Kobe even before his 3rd (and by far most legacy impactful ring).

CP3 single handedly turned the Clippers around imagine what he would do with Kobes squad.
And are we really comparing Nash and Dwight to PRIME Cp3?
Cmon ish

one argument is that people keep making these stupid ass threads comparing them. The argument is that LeBron fans still feel threatened. They still make threads (like this one) to try and convince people that Lebron is superior. If it were true, they wouldn't have to try and prove it.

the argument is that if Paul would have been a Laker, Kobe adds two more rings?
So he wins in 2012/2013 (he was done after that)... Kobe/Paul arent doing shit though.... Kobe/Paul without Gasol and Bynum (they lost both on the trade if I remember correctly), beating OKC, SAS, MIA? Lol. Wouldnt even take them against the functional Mavs teams.

CP3 wouldn't even be able to play well in the offense due to kobe ball hogging and throwing up bricks :facepalm

Always thought it was a weak argument when people simply pointed to rings as if that was the be-all & end-all of it. That's really the only argument one can use to Kobe being greater than LeBron, and it's not a good one. Kobe was a great player, but LeBron is higher for both peak play and all-time rankings.

GOAT wise, Kobe still arguably has the edge on Bron. Kobe has two more rings and is 3rd all time in career points. However, Bron has three finals MVPs, three rings, and 4 MVPs. He's scored more points than any SF in history, redefined his position in a manner Kobe never did, and is likely the most versatile player of all time.
But both have top 5 GOAT caliber resumes right now. The Mt. Rushmore GOAT wise in my opinion is MJ, Kareem, Russ, and Magic. But 5-10 GOAT wise could be arranged in a number of ways. The spots are almost interchangeable.
Peak wise, it could come down to a matter of taste. Peak wise, MJ is the best perimeter player of all time. But after that, Kobe, Bron, Magic, and Bird could all have case at #2 depending on what u want. What hurts Kobe to an extent is he DIDN'T revolutionize his position the way Magic, Bird, Bron, and MJ did. So for those reasons and Bron's versatility, I would take Bron. If Kobe was MJ's equal (which he was damn close), then I would go with him.

The exact same argument if some maniac wants to debate how Robert Horry is also greater than Lebron:
"B..b..but he has more ringzz"

5 rangz (team accomplishment)
all-defensive teams (popularity award)
all star selections (popularity award)
81 points (individual accomplishment)
all time leader in scoring (individual accomplishment)
i would give the 81 points to Kobe as Lebron will undoubtedly never top that
for everything else, the jury is still out. Lebron has still a few years left to play.
