Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continues to say that crime is rising across America, tweeting yesterday that “crime is out of control, and rapidly getting worse.”

But recent data shows overall rates remain at historic lows. A Brennan Center analysis released last month found that nationally, crime has dropped 23 percent since 2006. And, over the last decade, 27 states lowered both crime and imprisonment rates simultaneously.

From 2014 to 2015, crime rates remained nearly identical, according to a separate Center analysis. The report showed that, while murder rates have increased in some cities across the country, two-thirds of cities studied saw crime drop last year.

If you want to find 8 years with less crimes committed than the past 8 years, you have to go back 1973 - 1979 a time when crime was rising and a time when the US had about 100 million less people. So the crime rate hasn't been like this for 8 years since at least the 1960's.

There is nothing about today's situation that rises to a crisis.

The growing number of violent incidents involving police and the increasing tension between white and black people is nothing to worry about?

Things may not be completely spiraling into chaos on a daily basis, and if you were smart you would have picked up on his use of effective exaggeration months ago, but there is a major issue brewing in the densely populated communities of the U.S. that needs to be firmly addressed, not glossed over.
