If Kobe entered the league in 1984 like Drexler, and had the teams as Drexler....wouldn't he be recognized as about the same player as Drexler?

Drexler/Kobe known as the "2nd" best SG in the league every year shadowed by the GOAT Micahel Jordan. Takes his decent but nothing special starcasts in Portland to 2 NBA Finals as the clear-cut best, but comes up short against the bad boys or Jordan's Bulls.

And then eventually pairs up with another elite C and wins a title as 2nd fiddle

Why do I feel like Kobe, without the Lakers starcasts & Phil Jackson, would have had an identical career to Clyde Drexler with maybe better longevity.

Do you think Drexler wins back to back in Kobe's place in '09 & '10?

Yes? 2009 for sure, but if he is in his prime in 2010, then probably. We are talking about a guy who averaged 27/7/6 on 50+% FG while playing solid defense capable of taking a team of role-players to the finals more than once.

Give him Artest+ Gasol + Bynum + Odom and Phil Jackson as his coach...a 27/7/6 50+ player gets it done.

Why not?

Drexler was a better playoff and Finals performer than Kobe

Kobe could've definitely won a ring or 2 with the Blazers if he replaced Drexler. They were one of the main contenders from 90-92 and Kobe helps strengthen their biggest weakness which was halfcourt scoring. Has much longer prime too. Drexler doesn't even have a good case over Wade and this is coming a Drexler guy.

Yeah, those Blazers teams were very talented. One of the main criticisms towards them was them being a "dumb" team and lacking focus. Terry Porter and Buck Williams were very good players, and Kevin Duckworth had a nice post game and shooting touch.

Kobe was indeed better than Drexler. But it would still be a tall order facing the Bad Boy Pistons in 1990 and Jordan and Pippen in the finals in 1991-92.
