View Full Version : At what age did you become fat?

Statistically, like 2/3 of you all on here are fat. But I would say most of you all were skinny at one point.

So when did your metabolism slow down? My most recent ex just got engaged to this big ol fat dude who does magic, but I knew the guy when he was in high school and he wasn't always fat; think hes 30 or 31. So I'm coming up on 28, and actually weigh about 10 pounds less now than when I did in high school (used to work out every day). I drink like 3 Monsters a day, I smoke, I eat shit food, but I've been lucky enough to get an A+ on everything when I go to the doctor or give blood. Resting heart rate of a marathon runner, BP is outstanding, I have zero health issues (thankfully).

So.... at what point is this all gonna go downhill? I see my neighbors who are in their 40's and they're all pretty fat. Just made me think 'I wonder at what age they began to notice it'. Or if they ever noticed it...

One of the perks of having a Filipino mother...

I have practically zero body hair. Other dudes my age.. when they get in the pool and their back hair is floating... like wtf?

I was always skinny until my late 20's..28/9 ish. I filled out but was not fat. When I filled out it actually improved my physique. Now I'm finally getting a little gut in my 30's..I'm tall so it's not so bad.

I think the age guys especially start gaining weight with a harder time to lose weight is probably early 30s when it sets in. I've heard that from multiple people. They also say stress and kids definitely adds to it along with 40+ hour work weeks.

Do you workout? I wouldn't worry about it. People get fat when they're 40 cause you can't do nothing for 40 years and stay in passable shape. Believe me, eat however you want, albeit a bit less, and workout and no one will believe how old you are.

This, I remember this guy who used to play basketball occasionally at our gym who looked like he was 28-31 when he asked but when he told us he was 44, we were all nearly mind blown.

most of my buddies started packing the pounds on in their mid to late 20s. even my buddy who was peewee herman skinny his whole life, is starting to balloon up. but i blame that on the bucket of Velveeta he eats half of the nights of the week.

Mid 30's and my metabolism hasn't slowed a bit. I used to think it's because I'm really active. Workout 3 days a week. Play basketball and tennis consistently. But I just came off back surgery where I couldn't do anything but lay down, walk, and eat for 3 months... and I didn't gain an ounce.

Pretty much every one of my childhood friends is at least slightly overweight and almost none of them play active sports. And I don't want to brag, but I still look like I'm in my 20's... outside of my receding hairline.

I started packing on pounds at about 19 and was somewhat overweight throughout my 20's. Then at 30 I lost 55 pounds and got lean and ripped and have more or less maintained that since. At 41 I'm in better shape than I was at 21. LOL.

I've always been tall and slender, but I started getting a bit of a gut in my early 30s, in addition to filling out a little more in general. I've had to watch my diet and get in more exercise--things I didn't pay attention to when I was younger.

So any day now I'm gonna blow up :(

I figured it was right around this time. One thing I have noticed is the 'freshman 15' is becoming more and more like the 'graduate 35'.

Chicks I went to high school with went to college and got huge. Must be all the beer.

Nice! Should post pictures of the transformation. Those are always cool to see. It's crazy how big ugly girls can become cute when they lose a lot of weight.

Im in my early 20's but I do cardio 4x a week and do intermittent fasting. I promised not to have a dad bod in my 30's even tho i love me some beer :lol

Y'all should try intermittent fasting tho, it's really effective especially if you don't have time to workout or have a busy lifestyle.

I actually grew two inches in my mid 20s. Used to be 5-8 and now I'm 5-10.

I was a bit skinny fat about a year ago and had a bit of a lordosis going in my lower back but fixed that up by going to the physio and getting my core right.

Dropped my beer intake as well significantly.

I do the 16/8. Basically fast for 16 hours and have an 8 hour window where I can intake calories. I push my first meal atleast 6 hours after i wake up. So no breakfast. During the 8 hour window I only eat 1 big meal and some snacks here and there if i feel like eating. Doesn't really affect my enery levels at work and I've been leaning down ever since i started.

Wow lucky. I've seen someone with the same growth spurt but it was in the early 20s around 21-22.

At 27, I didn't become real big, but I got BS flab on my belly for seemingly no reason.

I really didn't have a sedentary job (I mowed lawns for half a year), I wasn't stressed out, and I wasn't drinking much alcohol or eating a lot. And, I was going to bed at about the same time every night (midnight or so).

It was total crap. I wish I would have had a free liposuction card to punish my stomach for it's insolence.

Recently turned 31, I have hovered around the 6%-10% body fat and the 70 Kg mark all my adult life. I have played sports since I was a little kid but the past couple of years it's been reduced to working out routines, I'm not sure if I will be able to keep the low body fat into my 40s but I sure as hell ain't going to become a turd.

They're so, so good.

And it doesn't help that my health metrics are so good. Gave blood last week at the red Cross bus, BP was 108/78ish. Something like that. Which is good for someone who consumes straight toxins and smokes.

I'm just seeing everyone else's unhealthy habits catch up to them but not me. Sports helps me too, I played for our company flag football team, basketball team, and currently softball and volleyball teams, so I'm still being somewhat active. Somewhat.

I need to go join the ISH Fit Club thread and make the transformation. The shitty part is I know if I work out for a month straight, I'll see a noticeable difference. By body, in HS at least, used to show the results of exercise very quickly since I have little body fat.

One area of my life I've been lazy. :(

I've always been pretty dense. Heavier than I look. I played basketball in HS at 195 or so (I'm 6 feet tall). In college my body definitely changed. I hung around more like 215 in college. I stayed around that weight, although it shifted around some until about 29. That was when I started feeling the effects of my degenerative knee conditions. Since then I've ballooned up to about 230-235, with the addition of a couple of torn Achilles' over the past three years, and that's pretty much where I stay all the time. Exercise wise I still play basketball once a week. I like to hike. I've taken up bowling, which feels like it's more exercise than I expected. I haven't gone to the gym in probably almost ten years, in part because the amount of impact weighted work I can do is pretty limited because of my knees and Achilles. But I would really like to get back this winter. I also eat whatever I want. I'm lucky that my taste doesn't lean much toward junk. Fat I consume more than I should, but sugar just generally doesn't interest me.

My metabolism starts to slow down as am in my late 20's. That's why I play basketball thrice a week so that I can burn fat and calories.

in my early 30's. I'm about 6' 190 and not a solid 190. Like a lot of the other posters before me, had major injury as an adult and... at least in my case it just stopped being worth it to play hoops and soccer with high school and college aged kids.

I was fat for a few years when I didn't exercise and smoked a bunch of weed. I mean, fat enough. I think I weighed like 30 pounds more than I do now.

I think I'll get 'fatter' as I get older... because everyone does, but I don't see myself being obese. Like old dudes got guts and such no matter how much they exercise. I can see that happening, but I want to be healthy.

I guess the only thing that would really mess it up is if my body fell apart. If I got really severe arthritis and couldn't stomach exercise at all... then maybe.

My body fat has prol been between 15-20... maybe some minor outside fluctuations lower-higher for most of my life. I can't really see getting much more than that. Maybe getting up to 25% as I get old.

I don't really know what my body fat is, per se, but I'd says it's close to 15.

but I drink water, eat pretty healthy... do some exercising, not really that much, tho. I'd be sad if I got fat cuz I am a v high energy person.
