And still be number 12 on the all time greatest player list? I don't think so. I keep hearing people say he is the greatest laker ever. That simply isn't true going by all statistical and accoladical evidence.

Kareem magic and shaq are all better, kobe MIGHT be top 5 unless you want to count wilt and jerry west in there. :facepalm

That's my point. He can't be the best laker ever and be ranked 12th all time. Something has to give. Clearly his 12th ranking is solidified by all mainstream. Therefore this talk of him being the greatest laker ever is an impossible conclusion to have.

True, he has absolutely no argument over Magic or Kareem, people may have him over Shaq because he was only on the franchise for a relatively short period of time.

Kobe is at best 3rd on the all time lakers list, which is reflective of his 12th at best all time ranking.

He doesn't necessarily need to be the best Laker player to be the 'greatest Laker'. Shaq, Kareem and Wilt all played on other teams for significant portions of their career, despite being better individual players.

The argument here is with Magic who spent his career as a Laker. But Kobe played like 8 seasons more than Magic, while racking up similar accolades. It's arguable, and if you weigh longevity and total body of work more, it's reasonable to conclude Kobe is the greatest Laker of all time, even though he may only be like the 5th best player to play as a Laker.

Being the greatest Lakers ever takes into account how long he's been with the organization, something the all time greatest player list does not.

It's Magic and not even close when you look at what role they had on the team at all times and their overall impact on and off the court
