ESPN has already aggregated their own pre-season MVP predictions (http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/17155333/2016-summer-forecast-most-valuable-player)

It's going to be Westbrook and Lebron showdown

but really comes down to 2 things

1. OKC standings in the West (Anything below 4th seed he won't get it)

2. If Lebron goes in FULL coast mode, which I imagine he does (and should)

GAP

3. Kawhi, IF his team is team is #1 seed, that's it

After the past two Finals flops by Curry, he won't get it ever again, now that Durant's there as the #1 and go-to option.

I think LeBron, Kawhi, Chuckbrick, and maybe Paul George collectively make up around 95% of the MVP likelihood. :lol I'd be stunned if Curry or Durant get another one as teammates.

I'm thinking James Harden unleashed with D'Antoni and no Dwight, 32-35ppg 8ast 5reb, a few 50 point games, a low seed might hold him back though.

Top 5 that I've seen on this site :applause:

The OP was a good post however, and it's hard to disagree with most of his points.

2. Stephen Curry

...now that another top-three player in the world in Kevin Durant has consorted himself with the consensual BITW in the reigning two-time MVP...

It will unsurprisingly be the best player, on the team with the best regular season record, like it always is.

So ... I predict ..... Tom Thibadeaux

Easily Lebron or Harden

Durant and Curry pretty much removed themselves from winning it, at least for this first season (Just like Lebron in Miami). Even if they didn't, Curry would somehow have to top last season's unreal production to win it this time given the Finals upset and his performance. It's an embarrassing storyline that the UMVP went out the way he did, voters won't just put that behind them

Westbrook and the Thunder won't be a top seed and he may very well be traded anyway. Should put up the numbers, though

Leonard will get more love if the Spurs do as good this year as last since Duncan retired

My bet is on Lebron or Harden winning it though (If HOU gets a Top 3 seed)

Chris Paul still exists... if he stays healthy he has as good of a shot as anyone

I think he knows by now he'll never win a championship. Might as well gun for the MVP that Kobe stole 8 years ago

I see where you're coming from, but this does not necessarily preclude either from winning MVP; it just depends on who is the clear-cut leader of the team, and it's more than possible for one of them to win that distinction. It'll depend on how well Kerr can massage his superstars' egos, however, because one of them will need to be willing to chasten their production in order to ensure to ensure that there is no conflict of interest as it pertains to the go-to player.

Regardless of whether you're playing on an Olympic team or a perennial lottery-contender, it doesn't change your impact on the team if your role and production are the same; obviously, it will have an impact on the wins-losses column and playoffs-standing depending on where the tipping point is, but the player's individual impact is still respected by voters regardless—hence, you've rarely seen any <50-win team-leader win the award, even if the player's impact on the team could make the difference between 30 more wins.

LeBron and Wade in their first year was an anomaly, and you can chalk it up more to the early-bird phenomenon as far as media hype goes. No way did Derrick Rose deserve the MVP over LeBron if you're talking about individual impact in a vacuum, but he earned it because his Bulls started off much more strongly out of the gate whereas the new-look Heat struggled to mesh early on. The timing the narratives are born (Derrick Rose's MVP candidacy) is important, because the media oftentimes remains entrenched in them despite changing trends.

Westbrook and the Thunder won't be a top seed and he may very well be traded anyway. Should put up the numbers, though

Agreed.

Still not going to rule out at least HCA-seeding considering the breakthrough Billy Donovan has shown at the end of last year, the fact that it's easier for him to engineer his offense with only one superstar aboard, and the more top-heavy balance of the Western Conference nowadays; but it seems to be near-impossible to win the award without top-three seeding under today's standards—an unlikelihood with the Spurs and Warriors in the same conference, and the fact that Westbrook probably won't be as impactful as his stats suggest.

Leonard will get more love if the Spurs do as good this year as last since Duncan retired

They most likely will.

No one wants to highlight this fact with all the sentimentalities of Duncan's retirement, but the Spurs still managed a 17-4 record without the now-retired Hall-of-Famer-to-be last season. It doesn't change his top-10-ATG career that he was a shell of himself at age 39, but it does indicate a paradigm shift—the fact that the Spurs are ready to move on from Tim Duncan.

Kawhi Leonard just needs to continue riding his trajectory as I expect him to, and the Spurs should be able to move on without missing a beat. He is the clear-cut leader of this team now; the more he espouses it, the more it'll show on the court.

Harden or Westbrook could win it if they go nuts and they manage a top 4 record out West.

Leonard could win it if he ups his production a bit and Spurs grab a top 2 seed.

LeBron is always a option since the Cavs are likely to be a #1 seed.

If the Warriors play through Durant, like they should, and land the #1 seed, I think he has a shot.

I give an outside shot to George as well if he balls out and the Pacers grab a top 2 spot out East.

LeBron won 2 MVP's, playing with Wade, after choking in the 2011 Finals. I do agree Durant is the more likely Warriors MVP candidate though.

Leonard has improved each year and is already a 2x DPOY.
If he can score about 25ppg and Spurs get 60+ wins and take the 2 seed, he he'd a really strong case.
