View Full Version : What would've been a more impressive win: McGrady vs '03 Pistons or Kobe vs. '06 Suns

McGrady faced the 1st seed, 50 win Pistons who had the league's #1 defense anchored by DPOY Wallace, while Kobe faced the 2nd seed, 54 win Suns who had the league's #1 offense lead by MVP Nash

If these two massive underdogs had held on to their 3-1 series lead, which would have been the more impressive achievement?

If you need another example of how shitty the league was in the early 2000s...the number 1 seed in the east in 2003 won 50 games...50 games. :oldlol:

Remember out west you had the Spurs, Mavericks, Kings and Lakers. All great teams.

And to answer the question, the Magic winning would've been more impressive. That team was truly garbage. At least the Lakers had Odom and Phil Jackson.

Suns were greater team . T-Mac had a realistical chance to win , but he choked . LA had no chance . Kobe did struggle them with his 50 points , but Suns won again .

If Odom just boxes out Tim Thomas they win and the Lakers would have made the WCF.

People always say this, but beating the Clippers was far from a lock. The Clippers had the Suns on the ropes too, with Raja Bell providing the bail out shot for them in Game 5. Could the Lakers have won? Sure, and it'd probably be a good series, but Brand was a beast that year, and it'd be far from a sure win. I would've given McGrady a better chance of advancing further than Kobe had they won

Magic beating the Pistons is more impressive. Pistons were a championship caliber team. Suns were just regular season warriors, and were missing Amare as well.

I felt sorry for T-Mac that year. That was the first season the first round went to a best of seven. If it were a best of five, the Magic more than likely would have won that series.

Pistons were contender after Rasheed joined them . And Suns were definitely contender between 05-07 .
