View Full Version : Lebron has never lost in the finals as a first option.

Without fatigue/injuries contributing to the losses.
Think about it, In 2011 lebron was the second option, playing in a new system with a rookie un-experienced head coach, Spoelstra plugged lebron in as a second option in the 2011 finals, causing a drop in his overall stats, we know this because wade averaged 25ppg those finals. thus he commanded more defensive attention thus, being the first option..

From sports illustrated:
In the summer of 2010, the Heat's higher-ups made the mistake of thinking they had acquired the best player at his position, instead of realizing they had acquired the best player in the world. "He was just the small forward and that was it," says one of their coaches. Miami fell in the 2011 Finals to the Mavericks, with James marooned on the wing, clanking midrange jumpers. Regardless of what the box score still indicates, that was his last experience at small forward. "We went from plugging him into a system," the coach says, "to molding a system around him." The Heat wised up and handed LeBron the ball. Location wasn't all that important.http://www.si.com/vault/2013/06/03/106329805/the-james-gang

Once james was assumed into a leading role, the team went on to win 2 straight titles with a washed up wade. http://heathoops.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/dwyane-wade-knees.jpg

In the 2015 finals the cavs were missing 3 starters and 2 of his bench players masquerading as starters suffered from major injuries/fatigue
but lebron still carried on and put up a GOAT performance in a losing effort.. His bench backup starting point guard was fatigued and hospitalized, and his wing was injured with a shoulder injury all playoffs. https://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/9n9ov-KM7tTxAdMCW8b2dAXWqws=/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/3763470/kyriehurt.0.jpg

Think about it, when lebron loses as the first option, it is ALWAYS because his team is suffering from fatigue/injuries. As the first option he has ALWAYS given everything he's had.

In 2007 and 2014 he was clearly first option and there were no major injuries

Um, 2007 and 2014?

And btw, Lebron and Wade were co first options in the 2011 finals, no different than the rest of the season. Just because Lebron struggled doesn't mean he suddenly became a 2nd option.

In 2014, the heat were forced to rest wade all regular season in hopes of him being healthy for the playoffs, We know this because wade played more than 10 games less following the 2013 nba championship, this was due to fatigue/injuries.http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wadedw01.html#per_game::none

In 2007 22 year old lebron averaged 26/8/8 and his second option 11 points the cavs lost the final 2 games by a maragin of three points or less Had his second option not been fatigued and averaged just 3 more points, the cavaliers may have been able to pull out a win or two. at that point it would be a whole different series.

Washed up Wade? In 2012 and 2013 Wade was an all-NBA player. He was top 8 in PER both seasons, including being 3rd in 2012. Just last season Wade put up 22/6/5/1/1 on 48% in the playoffs. I don't think you know what washed up means.

But regardless, why even make this thread? Lebron has lost in the finals as a first option on multiple occasions. Why would you make a thread title that you know is inaccurate and then make excuses why it's inaccurate? Why not just say that Lebron has won 3 titles as a first option?

this myth of bron playing second fiddle to wade in '11 needs to stop...before his eventual chokejob in the finals he was still considered the best player in the game after the Chicago and Boston series. whereas wade looked like he was the one playing second fiddle to bron in the Chicago series.

lebron straight up shrunk in the finals that year. the moment got to him, he got outplayed and lost.

Idk why that's so hard to accept

James was not the first option in the 2011 finals, we know this because he saw a drop in all his stats while wade's increased, and we know wade was washed up because he had subpar finals compared to his regular season play due to burning his knees out. Once james was assumed into a leading role, the team went on to win 2 straight titles with a washed up wade. http://heathoops.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/dwyane-wade-knees.jpg

Fine, Wade was the first option in the 2011 finals. Whatever. Lebron has still lost 3 times a first option.

Also, Wade in the 2012 regular season: 22/5/5/2/1.
Wade in the 2012 finals: 23/6/5/2/1.

Wade in the 2013 regular season: 21/5/5/2/1.
Wade in the 2013 finals: 20/5/4/2/1.

The only finals that Wade had a precipitous drop from his regular season form was 2014.
