So instead of calling Phelps the Jordan of swimming is it time to call Jordan the Phelps of basketball? There's other events. It'd be like if Jordan had to win all of the team stuff, which he would. But then he'd have to beat the best point guards at what they do...and then beat the best centers at what THEY do.

Not to say that their dominance isn't comparable. But we're just as unlikely to see another Phelps as we are to see another Jordan. Perhaps even more so.

That's the thing though, the relevancy doesn't matter as much as some here make it seem. At least IMO.

Phelps works just as hard to be great as Jordan did. In both time and energy.

Just because basketball is a more renowned athletic event year-round doesn't necessarily mean that some who participates in it is automatically > someone who excels in another incredibly challenging one.
