Unexpected. thought he was going to take another 2-for-1-and-done contract then ask for like a 5 year contract in 2017.

Almost as much, no quite. Conley will get $26 mill the first year, $28 the second and $30.5 the third. Then it caps out at $34 on his 5th year.

It doesn't make sense. He should have done another 2 year deal with a player option then re-sign next summer for 5 years to maximize his salary. This is a great deal for the Cavs since Bran will be 33 for the 2017-2018 season and he would have been on a 5 year contract.

I'm surprised he didn't do a 1+1 again, so he could maximize his earnings and retain some control over Gilbert.

Maybe he's thinking about a possible lockout scenario?

In the end...does it really matter to him? He makes so much money from endorsements that his actual NBA salary is peanuts regardless of what it is.

He can't do 5 yet because Cleveland doesn't have his full bird rights yet, needs one more year to get them.

I thought he would do 1+1 like last year, then do full 5 next year. But as it stands now he pushed the full 5 year back by 2 years

Big Time Pacers fan but also a fan of the Cavaliers as well checking in here. Even though LeBron lucked out with that suspension to Draymond Green and the injury to Andrew Bogut, he still deserves the money. I'm not sure if we can beat the Warriors again next year without those lucky breaks we were getting during the Finals though.

This is perfectly thought out by LeBron
He will play the 2 seasons, then opt out for the 3rd one. He will still be a top 3 player those seasons at worst so then Cleveland will sign him for 5 years 200+ mil.
Hes pretty much guaranteeing himself an extra season of max money.

Poutine has more culinary variables, ingredients, and techniques to account for than his usual fryer, and I barely trust 20Four with a hot oil and basic electricity, let alone around multiple cooking devices and ingredients. He probably struggles with preparing proper breakfast cereal.

I think at this point he's playing it a little bit safe in case of injury. He's been remarkably durable throughout his career, but things can still happen, especially when you get older.

Probably just wants to make sure he's got a little bit of backup, in case of the unexpected.

Not to mention this sets him up to be a FA at 34, just young enough to he able to command that last 5 year max.

Good move. Play for two years at the highest pay in the NBA, opt out after the 2nd year and go for the biggest 5-year contract in history before the inevitable lockout happens again because the NBA is owned by idiots.

the most money he can make is taking a 3 year deal with a opt out after 2 where he is still relatively in his prime to get another 5 year max over 200 million....
had he did a 1+1, chances are he would not get that extra year when hes broken down after a max deal next summer....

he gets one more year of max dollar this way

Also LeBron is pressuring the Cavs front office to get J.R. paid and signed. Same thing like Thompson. J.R.'s agent is LeBron's. I mean, at this point you can't really argue with anyone about it since he just won the title for Cleveland, in like 52 years.

Honestly, I think you pay JR, he's as close to an available 3-D type wing (extremely valuable to the Cavs and everyone else) as there is. Also, Cavs are much more dangerous with him. It might be wise to overpay at this point.

I want a rubber match, and I think JR will help us win it (I know you are Cavs fan first and foremost, and care about the squad in the future), but I think JR is worth it.

JR's situation can go one of two ways. He can either use the chip as motivation to carry on playing well, which basically just means putting effort into defense. Or he can let the chip get to his head and go back to his chemistry killing days. I've known and seen headcases like JR all the time, and I see the latter happening.

He's actually severely underpaid considering his worth to the city of cleveland and the cavs franchise.

We know this because time magazine printed an article about this stating lebron was worth atleast 500 million dollars in revenue to the city of cleveland.
http://time.com/2981583/lebron-james-cleveland-cavs-money/

Therefore we can conclude that lebron is severely underpaid and the statement you submitted is inherently false.
