A dozen of players have been labeled once during their professional career as "The Next Jordan" Only 1 comes close to him, you decide...

Len Bias

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/897898170.jpg (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=897898170.jpg)

Year: 1986

Like Michael, he won the ACC Player of the Year (two seasons after Jordan) but we'll never know if he would've lived up to the insane precedent Jordan set. The closest thing we do have is the two of them facing off in a Maryland vs. UNC game from 1984.

Harold Miner

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/635199haroldminer.jpg (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=635199haroldminer.jpg)

Year: 1990

While Miner was still in Los Angeles at USC he got tagged with an ambitious nickname, "Baby Jordan." Talk about setting the bar high. Later, George Raveling, Harold's Head Coach at USC, said "I always thought the worst thing that happened to Harold was the 'Baby Jordan' tag."

Grant Hill

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/235982granthill.jpg (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=235982granthill.jpg)

Year: 1994

Hill's career started out with a bang, taking home co-Rookie of the Year honors (with future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd) in the '94-'95 season; he then made the All-Star team in six of the next seven seasons. During those first six seasons, Hill was one of the premiere players in the L. His skill level and his personality helped Grant net tons of endorsements. Unfortunately, Hill broke his ankle in the 2000 Playoffs and was never the same again.

Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway

Year: 1995

Penny Hardaway was on pace to be a surefire Hall of Famer, but injuries derailed any possibility of that happening. Hardaway's size and athleticism were a unique combination. Penny's handles were so good he didn't have to worry about protecting the ball from smaller guards. At his peak, Hardaway was drawing comparisons to MJ in terms of league dominance. And his Orlando Magic became a major foe for the Chicago Bulls, eliminating Jordan back in the '95 Eastern Conference Semis

Kobe Bryant

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/9833140b56276684a928fe24e96975cb902308.jpg (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=9833140b56276684a928fe24e96975cb9023 08.jpg)

Year: 2002

A lot of people could (and do) make an argument that Kobe is the greatest threat to MJ's reign. Kobe has five rings, MJ has six. Kobe has 15 All-Star appearances, Jordan has 14. Kobe's a 12-time All-Defensive selection, Michael made the squad nine times and won Defensive Player of the Year in 1988.

LeBron James

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/898066lebronjames300x300.jpg (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=898066lebronjames300x300.jpg)

Year: 2003

The truth about LeBron is that he is currently the most dominant player in the NBA, and has been for the past five seasons, winning four out of five MVPs. LeBron and Jordan have both been dominant, but the way that they affect games is completely different. Bron Bron affects a game more like Magic Johnson.

Tracy McGrady

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/706412tumblro6cbvkWfvF1r2br17o1500.jpg (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=706412tumblro6cbvkWfvF1r2br17o1500.j pg)

Year: 2005

Interesting that McGrady was compared to Jordan when Jordan won six championships and McGrady just won his first playoff series this past week as a benchwarmer for the Spurs. McGrady also failed to match up with Jordan defensively. Whereas Jordan was a nine-time All-NBA Defensive Team rep, McGrady was "inconsistent." That leaves Tracy's offensive prowess. He was a stud with the rock (winning two scoring titles) but he only topped 30 PPG once (2002-03) when Michael did it eight times and actually averaged 30.1 PPG for his career.

Dwyane Wade

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/378330119146thumb.jpg (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=378330119146thumb.jpg)

Year: 2005

During the early half of his career, Dwayne Wade won three NBA Championships with the Miami Heat, as his game resembled Michael Jordan. However, Wade is on the back-half of his career, as he starting to look slower and older. While he has half of the NBA Championships as Michael Jordan, he won

Only Kobe and LeBron* were coined as the next Jordan and both failed to equal or surpass MJ.

Kobe. Most similar style and game.
Wade's in the paint game is reminiscent of MJ.
TMac was kinda similar too i guess.

Most of these other guys were a different kind of player.

And who called Rose a next Jordan :lol ?

You'd hate that label aye....one you could never live up to.

Kobes on the otherhand...just chuck as many shots as you can and if they miss...you've nailed it.

You might even beat his NBA record.

Nor would any other player cause so many virgins to obsess over gossip about his parents and personal life

As for the thread, Kobe fit him best as far as style and tenacity goes, he just lost out big on efficiency. Wade is the only other one that actually played remotely similar to MJ

Not sure why the others are even mentioned. Bias never got to play in the NBA and Miner was a scrub

I honestly feel bad for hardcore bball fans (which I'm assuming most in here are) that missed out on MJ. When you see what he did in the flesh and see everyone else, you realize everyone came up short by a comfortable margin.

Actually, no... all of these guys had some next-Jordan type of hype with the media. Only Kobe and LeBron have actually come slightly close.

In terms of stylistic similarities over their entire careers, it's Wade.

Kobe is the closest facsimile of mid-career to late-career MJ, but he came into the league trying to emulate that version of Jordan. As Wade got older, he began to incorporate quite a lot of that into his game too, but the reason he's the closest mimic of MJ overall is that when Wade was young, he was more imitative of young Jordan than anyone ever has been.

I always thought (and still do untill anyone can provide evidence/convince me otherwise) that Harold Miner got his 'Baby Jordan' nickname because of his dunking ability.

Was one of the GOAT dunkers. Won the dunk contest twice.

When Penny and Grant Hill were called the 'next Jordan' you have to see the context. Both were drafted while MJ was playing baseball, so everyone was looking for a superstar to fill that void. Both those players I guess filled the profile the best.

I think it is a little unfortunate and unfair to hype players up as 'the next...insert name here' but it is unavoidable. I think the term 'next Jordan' should be retired, the 'next Lebron' is probably more appropriate. People call Ben Simmons that.

You never here people called the 'next George Mikan' though :confusedshrug:
