"The ingenuity of VC-T engine technology lies in its ability to transform itself and seamlessly raise or lower the height the pistons reach. As a consequence, the displacement of the engine changes and the compression ratio can vary anywhere between 8:1 (for high performance) and 14:1 (for high efficiency). The sophisticated engine control logic automatically applies the optimum ratio, depending on what the driving situation demands."

Sounds exciting. I was saddened to read that it may only be a viable technology for 4 cylinder engines though. That will limit the platforms this engine is a part of. Nissan hasnt really done anything exciting for the majority of their vehicles. The Titan diesel is such a pitiful platform nowadays. Don't even get me started on their tweener diesel platform. :facepalm

This tech is pretty much gonna put an end to V-6 and Diesel engines, as it can replicate the power and efficiency of both.

The CVT of engine?

Too bad it comes out in 2018. Would like to see its performance review.

Gotta give it to Nissan. They know how to make some good engines. Skylines are reliable as hell, and one of the quickest cars out. Absolutely ridiculous they have a car that is quicker than Ferraris and Lambos.

The article says it is not cost effective for an engine with greater than 4 cylinders.

Highly doubt it impacts the diesel market anytime in thenext decade. Durability is legitimate concern, especially considering that it willbe turbo charged with 14:1 compression.
