Players like melo, truth, mcgrady, Kobe etc

Specialises in scoring skill sets as per the step back pump fake turn away shot, or the dream shake fake pass/drive turn around step back shots

Players like this who did exceptionally hard things exceptionally well and as a Lebron fan this is where I credit Kobe above even Mj In shot difficulty specialist. Mj could score so easily he didn't need any extra moves ala Lebron in the fast break. But we all love this breed of basketball and it's a shame melo is the last of it

Let me stop you right there.

You don't get extra points because the shot is harder. You may get worse chemistry and more fast breaks for the other team, but... not more points.

Lots to like about Melo. He likes contact, plays physically. Other NBA players like and respect him. He is a clutch shot maker.

He is also, however, a ball-stopper. The basketball loses energy whenever he touches it. I can think of no perennial all-star player in recent memory who kills a team's offensive rhythm more, and that includes Kobe, Iverson, Marbury.

It's not that he can't pass or is selfish. It's just that as good as his scoring instincts are, his instincts for running an offense are about as bad as can be.

I don't know what you do with that. But I can't see him winning a title unless he joins the Cavs.

It's appropriate that he's on the Knicks, which seems to be a kind of retirement home for players like that. (Francis, Marbury, now Rose)

This is what I was going to say. Leave aesthetics aside. It's not about making tough, aesthetically pleasing shots. It's about being effective and efficient.

Carmelo plays the wrong kind of game. As the game evolved and analytics become more widely used, we've seen players play smarter and become generally more efficient. I won't miss the lower IQ players. If anything, I think the game is going in the right direction in some sense.

I don't really understand what Melo does that makes him the last of a dying breed?

He's a versatile scorer. Quite a few of them in the league and there will continue to be more of them in the future

I agree with OP. Wings these days have pretty poor scoring skills compared to the likes of MJ, Kobe, Melo, Vince Carter, TMac and honestly, even ray allen. Other than Melo, the closest guy is Paul George, who I think is just a bit too stiff-legged to be the slasher those other guys are. He's still not really worse than a few of them nonetheless.

All those guys I listed were one-on-one virtuoso's, and most of if not all of them showed that they could go pretty deep into the playoffs if they were on good teams, and they were rarely the reason their teams lost. Paul Pierce won a chip, so i don't think there's inherently anything wrong with being a one-on-one player, as long as you can make reasonable decisions from time to time. SG's today are worse than I can ever remember (seriously, Vince Carter, Ray Allen, TMac are all waaayyyy better than Klay Thompson and Jimmy Butler). Small Forwards are prob. the best theyve ever been.

I won't miss a lazy, glorified chucker that couldn't take his team anywhere and thinks he's top sh*t

You haters need to stop hating on Melo. Everybody was kissing ass in 2013, and look at him in today's Olympics. Without Melo, USA would get no better than bronze.

Melo is a one dimensional player, and his one way dimension declines in the playoffs. A player with that description is not rare or special. Don't know why the hell you lumped Kobe in there.
