Magic Johnson was voted a surprisingly low 6th best player in NBA History by ISH. Due to the original creator going inactive and a suspicious way of tallying votes transpiring up until this point, I will be taking over the tallying responsibilities until further notice.

I don't get how people rank players.
If you did a poll on the greatest peak of all time, Shaq would be right there with anybody.
So why does it make any sense that there will be 6, 7 or 8 players ranked higher than him on the greatest players list?
Magic Johnson and Tim Duncan both possibly being ranked over him doesn't make sense to me. Neither one of them were on that level of dominance in their best years.

I agree with you but some people value longevity over peak. That's the only reason he isn't top 3.

All time lists are usually a combination of peak level accomplishments and other things, for example, would you say curry is top 10 all time because he had 2 seasons better than shaq statistically and per wise?

This is what I was trying to say. If it's based on peak, then Curry is top 5 all time and ahead of Magic, Bird, and Duncan. But people need to validate their rankings so they'd rather wait to see rings or achievements until they're ready to move someone up the all time list.

Ok. But he wasn't playing at his top level consistently for all of those. He declined heavily in 2006 and played the last 5 years or so as a lesser player.
He played a top level for 11 years but only went to God-like peak Shaq mode for 3 or 4 years from 2000-2004. Do you agree?

as good as he was those other years, there's a noticeable dropoff from shaq besides 2000 and 01. Magic has 2 or 3 years that are comparable to 87 and same for Duncan and 03. Also the idea that Shaq "underachieved" career wise plays in people's minds even though it shouldn't.

Shaq should still have an advantage over those guys for being clearly better at his best (even if it was just for a couple seasons) than they were ALONG with also having a long prime himself.
Alot of times there's too much of a disconnect between how good a player was and where they're ranked.
Yeah, accolades are important but they shouldn't be the deciding factor when we know a player was for certain better than the other.

Shaq for all purposes was a top 5 player from, at worst, his second season in 94 till 2005. Longevity as far as years of elite play isn't an issue. And in that time period, 3 titles as the lead player, an MVP( should have had 3) and a top 3-4 peak. Whatever the criteria is for how people are judging, I personally can't rank 6 players over him, certainly no-one else should be IMHO unless they're voting on arbitrary intangibles. He was still top 10 in 2006, and even had a bit of a renaissance year in 2009 with Phoenix.

Effective immeadeatly: I will be capping the max number of votes off at 15 instead of 20 since its unlikely there will be more than 1 player getting more than 15 votes in any particular time, this is subject to change however if this instance happens to occur more than once.

It seems shaq will be taking the number 7 spot on the ish all time list,
A new rule that will be taking place starting next post is if you vote for someone and they dont win, that vote carries over to the next poll, this is to prevent inconsistent voting and also to speed up the process a bit.
Example
larry bird had 8 votes for #7 but larry bird lost to shaq, therefore larry bird will start the #8 vote with 8 votes. also the people who voted for larry bird cannot vote again until that person is voted in.

What if we legit overlooked something? For example, I joined the last thread and saw everybody discussing Magic vs Shaq. Given that Duncan is usually top 5, I assumed he was already in the list. I therefore voted Shaq because I rank him over Magic. I would have put Duncan higher.
