He just fought a guy around 30lbs heavier on fight night, and also a dude with ELITE endurance and toughness. AND HE WON!
He *can* be a total asshole, yes, but he is also AMAZING.

You have to give him props for fighting such a larger man.
But make no mistake about it, no one ever feared for Diaz...but they did fear for Conor.
Conor won the fight ever so slightly, but you could tell that if the fight continued until a KO or tap out happened, Diaz would be the last man standing; as he should be, he's bigger and stronger.

Ok, what good is a hypothetical like that? It's never going to be over a five round fight and you could never prove that.

As someone who hasn't watched much of any UFC/boxing/fighting in general, can someone tell me what would happen if you stick Floyd Mayweather and this guy McGregor in a cage and told them that neither of you are coming out until the other one's dead? Who wins.

Great...conor mcgregor dick suckers here too...ugh. Nate Diaz isn't even a top 7 fighter IN ANY DIVISION...but you guys are praising this win? A win in which he gassed out in the 2nd round? LOL. It's like bitches you don't remember the great conor running away from Nate for at least two rounds...don't be scared homie.

Floyd wouldn't do too well. Floyd wouldn't do too well vs some other boxers in this environment either. Floyd's not the best type of boxer for this scenario, stylistically.
The type of boxer you want in this scenario is a knockout artist; wrestling experience in HS would be a huge plus. In general an Olympic caliber wrestler would fair much better than an Olympic caliber boxer. Wrestling, in general, is the most powerful single tool in MMA.

If fights went on to the death Diaz would've killed Conor in the first fight by holding that choke.

nice post and analysis. we could use more of this in the MMA discussions!
@ScalsFan21,
i have no idea whether floyd would be a good guy for MMA, but i think most boxers would get destroyed in MMA and most fighters would get destroyed in boxing. i don't think it's hard to understand why, either. james toney, former three-division champ, tried to do this a few years back. he trained MMA for about six months and then got pretty easily submitted by the ghost of randy couture.

Umm... what?
Conor decimated him in the 4th round. Absolutely carved him up on the feet. Big reason why Nate pushed it towards the fence and just clinched when he could.
Running? You sound like the idiots that say Mayweather runs. No point in having discussions with people like you.
He beat a guy a weight division above him. It is impressive.

Not really fair to compare Toney in this situation, since he was really out of shape, and clearly not in any condition to fight a top level wrestler. It was quite possibly the worst match up they could have chosen for him.

talk about not getting the memo. nate was good enough to fight for the title a couple years ago, and is an ultra-tough out for conor and everyone else in the game. he's a bad matchup for conor in particular, and outweighed him by about 30 fricking pounds on fight night. 30 fricking pounds!
the middle divisions are also the deepest, so even just being top ten in the UFC pretty much means you're a badass and a title contender.
time for you to suck it up and admit that conor pulled off something special on saturay night.

maybe they thought he had a significant age advantage over captain america.
strange, tho... apparently toney and dana white directly agreed to a multiple fight contract, and then hung him out to dry against the former world champ. what's the point if you're not going to ease the guy in to a situation, like they're doing with CM punk?

You stupid ****s also like to point how he beat a guy a division ahead of him...ugh...you know Nate is a natural lightweight...right? Yes, I watched the fight. Conor butchered him in the 4th.
But I'm sure you know better. You know, then a computer that counts the strikes landed and all.
But lets ignore the fact that Conor was the cleaner striker in the 4th, and the fact he landed more punches in the round, and we'll just base it off your shitty opinion.
And yes, Conor is the 145lbs champion, hence a natural 145lber. Hence either way, it is a step up for him. Exactly, he was stepping up to fight RDA. People were saying he was going to get his shit pushed in at 155lbs. Well, he has yet to fight there. He instead went up two weight divisions to fight a guy who is naturally 1 weight division higher than him. How retarded are you to not understand that?
You f*cking pansy shit. You wouldn't speak a word like that off the forum, so keep your mouth shut you f*cking inbred.

Any MMA-UFC fighter would guaranteed put ANY Boxer to sleep within 5-15 seconds... Mayweather would get jumped on, taken down and choked out/get his arm-leg snapped... Even if the rules were as such where wrestling/grappling/submissions is not allowed its still now a Kick Boxing/Muay Thai match instead of strictly Boxing and hence Mayweather loses again this time via Kicks/Elbows/Knees...... Mayweather would win only if it was a Punching contest (Boxing) and not even that is a guaranteed as Conor is bigger + no slouch and if the boxing match was with those thin MMA gloves it would end quick...
An expert MMA-UFC fighter is an expert FIGHTER with elite level pedigree in wrestling/grappling/judo, boxing, muay thai, karate, kung fu, tkd, jiu jitsu etc all in one... a boxer is not a fighter, he is a boxer, he knows only how to throw a punch & defend himself from a punch, thats a boxing match & boxing pedigree... MMA however is literally fighting, as literal as it gets, as close to a bar fight you can get... except for eye gouging, biting & going for the testies, wielding a knife, handgun etc. anything goes... this "sport" was illegal forever, its not new, its just finally legal for some odd reason....

He is simply the featherweight champion, which has had one other champion.
A great achievement, but he is not 'off the charts'.
People are suckers for hype.
He barely beat a solid 155 pounder, when McGregor struggles to make 145.
Just a money making exercise built off of hype.
This post makes you sound like you literally have zero idea about MMA.

Another dumb post. Calling Diaz just a 155lber is like calling Anthony Johnson just a 170lber lol.
And of course... Conor struggles to make 145lbs but somehow Nate is some natural 155lber while being far taller, having longer limbs to fill out and being in the game longer. It is what it is. People will hate.
Funnily enough the ones commenting and telling the guys who actually regularly post in the fight threads are now the experts. :oldlol:

The fact I don't fall for the hype and corruption shows how much I know about the sport.
If you think McGregor is 'off the charts' then you have fallen for the hype.
There are taller and shorter guys in every weight class. Look at Lim on the weekend.
How quickly him tapping out in the 2nd to the same guy is forgotten. Half this fight he wanted to run back to Ireland, looking up at the clock.
This is no 'off the charts' fighter. I give him props for beating a solid fighter in the division above, and Conor is very good, but people love to jizz their pants over everything.
It's not hating, it balanced view point. He could easily be forgotten within 18 months, seen them come and go for years.

Diaz would get KO'ed in 1st round against Conor at 145. For the first two rounds, Conor made Diaz look like a hopeless bum. He literally countered everything, destroyed his leg and made him miss nearly every shot Diaz threw.
Only reason fought got closer was because Conor gassed in the 3rd. He was running away to catch his breathe. I'd love to see Diaz fight at 205. Pretty much what Conor did.

Why do you post about anything on here? :oldlol:
At times, he struggled against a guy 20-25lbs heavier than him on fight night. Cool. Amazing. Great analysis.
What hype and corruption? :oldlol:
He has destroyed his division and is now moving up and fighting bigger guys. Doesn't happen much in the UFC, and certainly doesn't happen when holding a belt much.
Congrats, you've seen fighters come and go. Good for you? What do you want? It is no longer hype when the person becomes proven, you realize? Conor is the best by a long shot in his division. That is amazing in itself, to knock off the 10 year long undefeated champ. Now he is going up a weight divison, or two in this case, and proving he can hold his own.
Solid fighter in the division above? :oldlol:
He has yet to fight in the division above, so you wouldn't know if he is solid or once again, the best, just like at 145lbs. He has fought at two weight divisions above, where he is solid.
If you think McGregor is 'off the charts' then you have fallen for the hype.

before the fight i was extremely critical of conor taking on diaz again. i posted about this extensively in the fight thread, with a lot of analysis about why i thought it was a terrible idea. well, conor did the unthinkable and pulled off an amazing upset. he proved me wrong and so i give him props.

I was impressed with Conor knocking down Diaz 3 times, that was insane how accurate and powerful his left hand is.. never thought he could rock a Diaz good.
This was a close fight, I wouldn't put too much thought into this fight because it doesn't really mean much, if anything, it showed some major flaws in Conor's game but it really shows his power and accuracy.
I hope he stays in 155 and drops the 145 belt. I don't care to see him compete in that weight class.
