View Full Version : Which Point Guard Could've Run Team USA 2016?

Team USA's offense looked really out of touch. It could've been because they were kind of thrown together and had repetitive skillsets, but just wondering who would've been more ideal to "run the offense," if not Kyrie, who's much more of a scoring guard? Like how would this point guard have gotten the team into their offense? What qualities do they have that would enable this?

The staff did a really good job of building the 2014 FIBA team, because they weren't reliant on a single "point guard" to run all of the sets, collect assists, etc. And, they also didn't just throw together one little guy, one big guy and a bunch of wings. They actually built a roster that made sense.
They wisely started three guys who could get a shot for themselves or others at any time... and they could all shoot.
PG: Kyrie Irving
SG: Steph Curry
SF: James Harden
Then, they had the do-it-all, rim protecting center in Anthony Davis, and a motor/energy guy at the 4 in Faried. There were several defensive wings off the bench and there was never a time that multiple playmakers weren't on the floor together.
That team destroyed the field in Spain in 2014.
But, I thought this year's team did fine once they settled on a rotation that made sense (starting Jordan and bringing Cousins off the bench, and starting George and bringing Klay off the bench).
They worked the kinks out in pool play and then coasted in the tournament. Even Spain never really threatened us. The final score was much closer than the actual game.

I don't disagree with this. Kyrie at the 1, Steph at the 2 and Harden at the 3, with Davis at the 5? Sheesh. Plus faried at the PF for energey and defense.
