So the USA invested lots of money and ressources to support the Kurds, and now bombs them to hell.

Can anyone explain this to me?

what the phuck is USA doing

Obama you ISIS supporting POS!

The Kurds have been loyal and consistent allies to us for DECADES and we keep shitting on them. I hate how our government treats the Kurds.

This is what slavish adherence to NATO does to us. Turkey aren't even paying their way in NATO and we are bombing the Kurds for them.

The whole situation is so confusing right now. YPG are retreating, however not the SDF.

At least Putin/Assad have clear goals, the USA has more of a trial and error approach in her foreign policy.

Dont think so, their goal is destabilization in the region.

I don't think anyone seriously expected the USA to support a redrawing of the map of Turkey to the benefit of the Kurds...

And I don't think Kurdish fighters have a serious expectations that the USA are going to support them in their bid to set up an independent state at the expense of Turkey either (at least I hope not! That would be a tragic misunderstanding)

Rather, the Americans are trying to use both Turkey and the Kurds to fight against a common enemy, while perfectly aware that their other objectives clash. And wherever they clash, America will tend to side with Turkey because it is strategically more important.

(You guys are pretty prudish as far galactic empires go, I must say... stuff like this certainly wouldn't have shocked the Brits)

Problem #2.

Turkey is not our ally. The Kurds are. Well, that used to be true before Obama became president.

Well, Turkey supports ISIS and Obama is the founder of ISIS. Not rocket science, no pun intended.

Funny how on television they say that Obama and the Turks are bombing ISIS, but in fact they support ISIS. The media just lies all the time. You can't believe a thing they say.

Bombing the Syrian Kurds is not helping to fight a common enemy: it is deliberately trying to wipe out a military force that has been one of the most effective in fighting ISIS (and also one of the least bad, ethically, though they certainly are no saints). Erdogan is going to carve himself out a nice chunk of Syria; say hello to the Ottomans, v.02.

America really ought to get its nukes out of Incirlik.

The operation, called Euphrates Shield, has a dual purpose: to dislodge Isis from Jarablus, its last major redoubt on the 500-mile border, and to contain the expansion of Kurdish militias in northern Syria.

It's one thing to be babblin about something that's happenin in another part of the world and another thing to live it.

Both major airports in Istanbul and Ankara got hit the past year and nowadays they are starting to bomb weddings in smaller towns rural areas. Kurdish and Turkish villages on Turkish soil have been suicide bombed, mortar bombed and raided.

Obv something needed to happen

If you look more carefully at the so called terrorist attacks in Turkey, most of them target Kurds. Coincidence? The wedding the was blown up last Saturday night was a Kurdish wedding in Gaziantep. More interestingly, the groom belongs to the pro-kurdish opposition HDP party. The wedding was also attended by party members and sympathizers of party. Previously, two Kurdish protests were blown up in Suruc and Anakra. "ISIS" accidentally targets Kurds inside Turkey.

It's what Erdogan got from the US for not extraditing Gulen, Kerry just announced that the Kurds will not get anymore support from the US if they don't retreat to east of Euphrates.

mostly error. how many success stories exist in the history of US military interventionism and nation building? South Korea turned out pretty good in the end... anything else?

Not in the sense of directly bombing Yemenis targets.

either way there is blood on US hands. we knew what those bombs were intended for when we gave them to the saudis.
