The idea of Lebron chasing rings is a fallacy. The Miami Heat had not been contenders in years when Lebron joined them, and the Cleveland Cavaliers were a perennial lottery team full of playoff virgins when Lebron returned home. He is Lebron James. If he wanted to go chase rings on the Spurs or Mavs or Bulls etc. he could have taken a paycut and joined those established teams easily. He wanted a challenge and therefore joined teams that had not had any success whatsoever in the previous 2-3 years.
