There are other examples, but just look at the game Detroit eliminated Chicago in 1989. 5-12 from the line and 8 turnovers in front of the home crowd.

He was great, but human. LeBron is probably better.

No disrespect to MJ, but 1-9 without Pippen has to count as some pretty significant black marks right?

Needing help just to win a couple playoff series is reasonable for the average star... But for a guy we gonna call the GOAT!?!

Where was his "will to win" then? Why didnt he put the team on his shoulders and simply "refuse to allow them to lose?" Whenever a team wins, people always claim it was really just about their star's "killer instinct" and how he dug in and simply carried the team to a win through sheer will power.

I mean... 1-9 is pretty sad. Should a GOAT really have a 1-9 playoff record at any point, regardless of teammates?

1-9 should be a reminder that no player wins championships by themselves, that you always need a good supporting cast around you, even if you're Jordan. But I can't give him too much criticism for going 1-9 his first 3 seasons.

He lost 3-1 as a rookie on a 7 seed going against a team with 20 more wins than his. Then the next year he had to go up against a team many consider the GOAT in the '86 Celtics, he dropped 63 and STILL lost for fuccs sake. He had to go up against the same team the next season, a team with the likes of Bird/McHale/Parish/DJ, while his second best player was Charles Oakley and, no surprise really, got swept again. You really put blame on him for losing those series? He played great the majority of the time and it still wasn't enough. LeBron wouldn't have done any better

That's really misleading.
Jordan had 32 points and 13 assists that game, which has only been done 15 times in playoff history and has only been done multiple times by 3 guys (Jordan included).

He had a high turnover count with 8 but had higher than a 3:2 assist to TO ratio.
He shot poorly by his standards from the line but shot 50% from the field, and 50% from 3 point land for a ts% of 52%.

He also had 3 steals and 2 blocks (the 3 steals to help further offset the turnovers.)

This was an odd thread. I'm assuming OP said it tongue in cheek.

Great post, facts are good tools but at times it doesn't tell the whole story, same goes for advanced stats like win shares etc.

Great post

The idea that the GOAT should be unable to lose a playoff series no matter the circumstances or time is dumb, to be honest. You'd have to think that any adult would understand these things a bit better and not hold a basketball player to standards that border on being superhuman or omnipotent. That's the stuff comics are made of, not real life

Circumstance matters, no matter who you are.

There are other examples, but just look at the game Detroit eliminated Chicago in 1989. 5-12 from the line and 8 turnovers in front of the home crowd.

He was great, but human. LeBron is probably better.

First off, the Pistons were the #1 seed (63-19) while the Bulls were the #6 seed (47-35). The Pistons were picked by many to win the whole thing that year.

And Detroit was utterly SHOOK when MJ led his Bulls to a 2-1 series lead, while putting up these numbers in the first 3 games:

35.0 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 4.3 APG, 2.3 SPG

And it was after game 3 when Isiah and his coaches came up with the "Jordan Rules." They feared this guy so much, they needed to devise a special rule to slow him down. And Detroit did end up winning the next 3 games after implementing it. MJ's numbers the last 3 games:

24.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 8.7 APG, 1.7 SPG

So the best team in the NBA, expected to win it all, with one of the most physical and toughest defenses ever devised a plan to slow down MJ and it somewhat worked. But the important point to take away from this is that MJ never gave up. He kept trying. And he made up his mind to build up his body to better handle the physicality.

And FYI, the game you are talking about, MJ had 32 points (50% FG), 13 assists and 3 steals. Love how you focus just on his FT shooting and turnover.

I said "clutch" not "great". 5-12 from the line is bad. He put up good numbers otherwise, but 5-12 ft shooting down 2-3 in the ECF is bad and un-clutch.

If LeBron did that, people would hold him to it. Don't hold LeBron to a higher standard than MJ unless he's... better

Nah homie I pegged you 100%. Patting yourself on the back like that was insecure AF. Who cares what you did in the past or how important you think you are on a forum, fact is right now you're acting like a female. Is it surprising this is coming from a dude who said Madonna could back him up concerning shit related to another man sexually. Really fam?

If you're an adult, I can't fathom how another man concerns himself with shit like that, but then I don't see things like an insecure beta (You). Madonna could back you up? You wanna talk with Madonna about how Dennis Rodman smashed her too, with all the juicy details? Where does it end

You know damn well you're the type of dude to shit talk another man to a broad just to get brownie points. Stop being a cuck

I didn't say a word about his gambling debts so keep randomly crying meltdown to get pats on the back from your fellow virgin Dray n Klay. Keep it up. Cuck fam sticks together?

Try harder. You legit said you'd get a floozy to back up your claims about another man's dick (A man who doesn't even KNOW you). Go jump rope with your sisters again. You sound like you miss that girl talk, so why not talk to her about Madonna's stories about other men. You're into it

I can't take you serious. Anyone surprised this man continues to be worried about everyone else's dick? If you're not a female (By birth or operation), then you should honestly re-think your priorities.......

Or gender

If you're implying I'm an alt with this, like I said, insecure. If the thought of it bothers you so much, ask a mod. They're here and watching and can clear that up for you. You won't do it, and we both know why

Funny how all you talk about is losers and respect, and meanwhile you are the biggest loser on ish and literally no one respects your opinion

There are other examples, but just look at the game Detroit eliminated Chicago in 1989. 5-12 from the line and 8 turnovers in front of the home crowd.

He was great, but human. LeBron is probably better.
Jordan doesn't will his team to victory once, isn't clutch. Ok, time for your meds.
