It's pretty obvious that Lebron, Bird two greatest SFs in basketball history (not a "who's better" thread). Differences aside, both players' games are built on skills that few other SFs have ever matched: uncanny versatility, court awareness, great passing.
Given their success, individually and team-wise, and given Lebron's current potential influence on the game, are we seeing a new model for a small forward?
Back in Bird's prime, he was an anomaly, but I think by the end of Lebron's career there could possibly be a new wave of young players willing to take on the identity of a versatile, intelligent, dime-dishing SF. Much the same way Jordan's influence reshaped the idea of a SG, I think Bird/Lebron could reshape how younger players view the SF position.
Thoughts?
