View Full Version : GSW lost only because they lost David Lee

down 1-2 and feeling hopeless GSW inserted David Lee and suddenly the baskets were coming in all directions in the paint. An ex all-star who can score 1 on 1 and get buckets/fouls in the paint was the perfect complimentary piece to a Draymond who could not score 1 on 1 but can do all that 'modern' basketball stuff. David Lee was able to take advantage of Tristan Thompson in the paint with his iso scoring skills while his passing cut Cavs to pieces.
This year up 3-2 the GSW felt hopeless. As open as the paint was as the Cavs were chasing GSW around full court, GSW just couldn't find a way to score in there. Draymond wasn't able to score on Love 1 on 1 and Bogut was not the all-nba player he was offensively a few years ago. A david lee could have cut that paint open and score 1 on 1 against Love/TT without much issue.
When GSW traded David Lee in the off season, I knew they just couldn't seal that gold at the end of the season. Their only paint scorer was traded and so many offensive plays that they could have run, became obsolete in the half court setting. When the game got physical, GSW couldn't find one single iso scorer. If they had David Lee, don't tell me GSW goes scoreless the last 4mins of game 7.

David Lee is the most underrated facilitator and overall offensive player in NBA history.
Such a great passer and decision maker.

David Lee is a post scorer and GSW doesn't have any post scorers. That doesn't mean that David Lee is some sort of crazy talent its just that his particular skill set was needed

Imagine a lineup of Curry/Klay/Iggy/Green/Lee. The Cavs would massacre them in the paint.
Besides, wasn't he injured half the season?

Lee is not a good defender and is basically Kevin Love on the PNR defensively but in the playoffs you don't need good rim protectors. Miami Heat won multiple rings without a real rim protector. Everyone mans their man and with Klay on Irving and Iggy on Lebron thats about as good as you can get defensively unless you have Jordan and Pippen.

The OP is oversimplifying why they lost.

Bosh is basically a billion times better than Lee defensively. If David Lee was guarding the paint against LeBron, Kyrie, and Love, it'd be a massacre.

Honestly?
Even the Bogut/Green lineup couldn't stay on the floor that much.
Ezeli/Green as well.
David Lee had some good moments, but only for short spurts.
It was a nice redemption moment in 15' to see him come off the bench and do some good to justify his ring.
But yeah if he played lots of minutes they'd get slayed.
Cavs are superior when both teams go big.

so they played with an injured star, Stephen Curry, and probably would have lost the series even before it went 7.
but as they went 7 games, with an injured star, eventually broke down in front of the home-crowd in the last game.
somehow, this is a storyline can't be accepted, as if playing with an injured unanimous MVP to push the game to 7 wasn't a miracle already.

You just exposed yourself. David Lee is a great player, but most underrated? No wonder you have a big fat cow for a wife. Your judgement is $hit.

This time The Cavs have Kevin Love who can be more effective when David Lee is playing. This argument does not apply to 2016.

Sorry but if Lee was playing Bogut injury, Draymond suspension, Iggy injury suddenly becomes much less of an issue since GSW can put an all-star on the field in Lee. Don't tell me Lee, who was an all-star a couple of yrs ago isn't still the same player.

Guy got cut from Boston.
They gave minutes to Jerebko, Sullinger and Olynk.
Let that sink in for a moment.
