In England, all of the Euros and Africans LOVE American girls. The same way we think their girls have exotic accents, they love American accents. Back in uni, the Euros and Brits and Nigerian dudes I hanged out with would go crazy every time they met a new American girl. Even ones that weren't very hot. i'm from south america, and i think most countries down there tend to love americans.

AFAIK americans cultivated a poor reputation in parts of europe and the world somewhere around the 60's to 90's. the usual complaints are about assuming everyone speaks english and being completely ignorant / insensitive to whatever culture they're visiting. but it helps a lot that english became the international language some time back, and everyone wants to live the "american life" so to speak.

the world's worst tourists these days are easily the chinese. that's directly because the cultural revolution trained an entire generation to be a bunch of completely insensitive obnoxious assholes.

Except for their occasional confusion with how to correctly use a toilet and the fact that many don't bother to learn any words or phrases in English, Chinese are very good tourists.

They also can't hold their booze, and pass out in their seats. I catered for 200 Chinese before (a business function), and it was hilarious; so much effort goes into preparation, making the place, table, seating, and cutlery look nice, etc. and they mangled it all so badly that it was obviously a huge waste of time. Pouring wine into teacups before servers had come round, eating from the saucer rather than plate, and so on.

It's really hard to blame Americans for being ignorant and naive though. Americans don't have the same amount of holidays as other countries neither the proximity to countries like europeans have. A lot of them just want to relax from their corporate jobs and jet off to the Caribbean which is nice but doesn't provide any cultural enrichment.

And any outdoors/geographical activities you desire you can find in America. You can find similar in Europe and you get the added bonus of cultural and historical enrichment. Hot springs in iceland, skiing in the alps/bulgaria, beach in spain or black sea, fjords in norway and cliffs in scotland etc.
