China is only communist administratively, it is in most regards the most capitalistic society on the planet.

The Chinese have had 5000 years of market culture and 71 years of communism.

The communist government is essentially the chamber of commerce. Government works hand in hand with the banks and key business people (anyone who excels in their field has the ear of or is a member of the communist party). IF you get out of line, they nab you on corruption (everyone is essential corrupt under this system, people only get called out when they don't toe the line, its a control mechanism).

I was just in Ho Chi Minh City, McDonald's, KFC, etc...

Plenty of US expats doing business there.

Vietnam is doing a great job leveraging China (the US's main competitor) both militarily and economically (factories etc.).

How exactly did the US lose that war? Vietnam might be the most important ASEAN ally going forward.

This claim is a joke, China knows that the Philippines and Malaysia are too flaccid to combat them, Taiwan kind of wants the same claim since they are 'China' as well (in theory not practice), and that leaves only Vietnam to worry about.

By making these waters Chinese, they can stop US patrols and bully their ASEAN neighbors and have control over the region.
