21 years old in a tougher era of defense.

LeBron's first Finals he scored 22 points per game on 35% shooting while seeing the easier defensive rules (2006-2007) that did not allow hand-checking. He was 22.

In Kobe's age 22 Finals Performance he scored 25 points per game on 42% shooting. Note that this was also under the tougher era of defense that allowed more physical play in the perimeter. (2000-2001).

NBA changed defensive rules to curtail hand-checking and physical play on the perimeter in 2004. http://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_history.html

Kobe scored 24 ppg on 41% shooting. and got bailed out by shaq's 35

Allen iverson 35 ppg on 40% in the same era
By kobetard logic
without shaq kobe loses that.

Therefore prime iverson> prime kobe

Kobe was not in his prime during 2001, he was only 22 years old.

Prime Iverson > Young Kobe

Kobe was 22 during those Finals, Iverson was 25.

If you do research on what happens to players from age 22 to 25. They improve greatly.

You just said that shaq didn't win until kobe entered his prime.

So which one is it? They won in 2001, was he in his prime or not? if he wasn't than this whole thread is as suspected, retarded.

OP states that shaq wasn't able to win until Kobe entered his prime

Shaq won with Kobe shooting 15ppg on 36%

OP then argues that Kobe wasn't in his prime yet

It was a typo.

Kobe entered his prime at 22 years old, but didn't reach his peak until later.

Shaq is like bran. They have great stats but arent effective players in the playoffs. Thats why they havent won until they had a crunch time player to save their asses

Do you honestly think Kobe's performance was irreplaceable in 2000? Shaq was so dominant in the 20000 playoffs/finals that the Lakers got away with Kobe's 15ppg finals, the main bright spot being his game 4 when Shaq got fouled out. But there were 5 other games that series, and Shaq was flat-out transcendent.

Only losers try hard against weak teams. Just look at bran and wilt trying so hard in the regular season. They knew they gonna lose so they want to fool people as many as possible

Shaq beat MJ in the playoffs when Kobe was a child

I'm sure it has nothing to do with Shaq becoming the greatest version of himself, which was a better player then Kobe ever was.

This illogical argument is so stupid and it's incredible how long it's been going on. Just because a player doesn't win until he starts playing with a certain player, it does not mean there was no other way that player could've won.

Nothing close to the Bulls Triangle offense.. though

Lakers had an overall less skilled and smart team too, having the most dominant big man ever helped though.

yes, this contradicts to the fact that Shaq won one after leaving the Lakers without Kobe

I guess if we're talking FMVP, then there's still no explanation why they couldn't win more than 3

How can you not get the point? Why take shots at Lebron all of the sudden? WTF... He is not trying to take shots at Kobe, he is just telling you exactly how much Shaq needed Kobe especially that 1st Finals.. he literally didnt need Kobe whatsoever considering his low production / DNP (Kobe missed some game that Finals with injury) they still won...

How could you have needed somebody when that somebody didnt give you anything / wasnt even there occasionally and you still won... get it?

Prime does not equal peak.

Kobe entered his prime at age 22 and reached his peak at 30, then exited his prime at age 34.

"Kobe wasn't in his prime until he turned 22"

Kobe was 21 in 2000 :hammerhead:

He was begging to enter his prime at age 21. He was further developed than most 21 year olds.
