Diva move imo. He wanted a farewell tour ala Kobe. Can't hate but that's how I see it. He could've kept it private ala Garnett/Duncan but he chose the Kobe route.

He won't get it. Kobe was one of the league's most popular players. Basketball purists will respect his contribution to the game, he's one of the most skilled perimeter players I've ever seen. But he's not going to be selling out arenas in his farewell tour.

Oh, I wish he hadn't done that.

It's always more honorable to go out quietly.

And no, Pierce won't get the Kobe treatment. He's a great player but not a legend. A farewell tour only makes sense for players of Kobe's historical stature - right or wrong, that's how it is. A farewell tour for Wade or Chris Paul in their final seasons wouldn't make sense either.

And now we get mad at people for retirement announcements.

My being a Celtic fan is the worst kept secret on the board. The real mystery is when it became a crime for a player to say it was his last season.

Some people might prefer guys going quietly into the sunset rather than taking the Kobe approach but I don't think that announcing your retirement in advance is a crime.

Welp, time to get tickets for when he comes to the TD Garden.

Got tickets to the Celtics/Nets game when him and KG came back to Boston. Very emotional. I can only imagine what this one's gonna be like.

In the age of social media and sports forums it's fashionable to hold modern players to standards players of older generations weren't held to.

Is VC coming back this year? I can see him going out next year too. Dirk looks like he's got a good bit more left in the tank, he may play till 40 if he's even remotely close to his level of play last year.

Why is this a "diva move"? Guys like Pierce and Kobe have a lot of fans out there in all parts of the country.

I'm sure fans would prefer knowing that this will be the last opportunity to see one of their favorite players whenever he's in town.

Paul Pierce does not give two shits about Kobe Bryant. Kobe wasn't the 1st player to announce his retirement before his final season. Wtf

Didnt kobe only announce it during the season once he had shown he was playing shit and it took the attention off that.
