View Full Version : Eric Trump: Dad came 'from just about nothing'

eric trump's net worth is reportedly $150 million.
so how much of that was self-made? about zero. there is no debate. it is zero. listen to him talk. he has no talent.
but i guess if you've been given $150 million by your dad for doing nothing, you'd probably think $1 or $10 million is "nothing."

"A small loan of a million dollars "
If this loan was made in 1970, as he claimed, that's equivalent to $6 million Today. That is far from a small loan. Only someone so out of touch with reality can make such an absurd claim.
In contrast, many billion dollar companies were started on much less. Dell, Apple, Whole Foods, Dominos, Starbucks, etc. all these were started with several thousands of dollars, not even 1/10th of what Trump calls a small loan.

Not from Chelsea but from Hillary herself.
"You have no reason to remember, but we came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt," Clinton said. "We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to piece together the resources for mortgages for houseS, for Chelsea's education. It was not easy. Bill has worked really hard. And it's been amazing to me. He's worked very hard.

Trump boys, like nick young toolbag here, are gullible. They eat up whatever bs lie he feeds them.. Most conservatives were anti-Trump until last year. Now, they are his biggest fans

It's the dumb liberal mindset.
Now there is a criteria for 'self made'.
Lets say......Would asking a bank for a million dollars loan to open my new restaurant be considered self mad or not?

Saying Donald Trump isn't self made is like saying Kobe Bryant isn't self made.
Kobe had a physical athletic ability he was born with. We really going to compare that to Trump starting a business with a million dollar, which is about $6 million in today's currency, his daddy gave him?? :facepalm

the fact that you asked that question reflects how poorly you understand the financial matters of starting a business.

are you incapable of realizing the difficulty in obtaining a $6,000,000 loan from a financial institution when you are starting from nothing? you will be laughed out of the bank with that type of request. if you're too goddamn ignorant to realize how much of a privilege it is to be handed $6 million on a silver platter, you should not be discussing this topic at all as you have nothing beneficial to offer to this discussion.

not to nitpick, but i'm not crazy about this example. in fact jobs had a number of similarities to trump IMO.
like trump, he had something of an aggressive con artist side to him. he was good at taking things which he didn't bring to the table himself and spinning them in to profits. examples would be 1) one of the most brilliant hardware engineers ever in steve wozniak and 2) the basis for all modern GUIs, xerox' PARC user interface. those two elements are the direct foundation of the massive apple business empire.
where jobs differed from trump is in being a passionate ideas man far more committed to his ideas and vision; someone who loved to change the world. by contrast, the donald's passion is more about amassing wealth at other peoples' expense and living large. seems to me that he never really cared about the trail of ruin he left behind him. bill gates would be more like trump in that sense.

i like the factoid that trump would have made a lot more money if he had simply invested his dad's money at market rates.
he'd be richer and wouldn't have f-cked over so many lives, but he'd also be a lot less notorious.

Trump received more than a million. He frequently got money from his father. The initial million, then 14 million, etc, until he finally borrowed against his inheritance. And the inheritance itself.

Saying Donald Trump isn't self made is like saying Kobe Bryant isn't self made.
Did Trump build on and go beyond what his Dad started. Yes.
Is Trump self made? Absolutely not.
Both of these things are true.
His Dad was one of the richest men in America at one point. Trump received yearly money from two trust funds set up in 1940s; one by his grandmother and one by his father. In 1976 his father set up a richer trust fund for him.
The secret of that "one million dollar loan" for Donald Trump's first deal in Manhattan is that it was not Donald Trump's deal. It was Fred Trump's deal. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/03/03/trumps-false-claim-he-built-his-empire-with-a-small-loan-from-his-father/)He was the front man for his father.[QUOTE]There was a nearly $1 million loan from Trump

For Trump to be self made you would have to ignore
His wealthy family, the wealth dating modest real-estate investments ($500,000 in today's money) Donald's grandfather left to his father
His yearly income from trust funds
Tuition at Top Schools (His high school costs $37,000 a year these days.)
His executive position in the family business that no one else would have been able to get at the same age with the same level of experience.
His father's loans, and loan guarantees for the first 20 years of his individual career.
His father political connections
The multi-million dollar loans to prevent bankruptcy from his father and his siblings. (He twice borrowed $10 million dollars from them and another time his father bought $3.5 million dollars of casino chips he never intended to use in what was termed and illegal loan.
so if you can discount all of that, you can say it was self made. I can't and I think the Kobe analogy is poor one.

Pretty much self made.
He didn't inherit a billion. He made it.
It's a lot easier to make a million than it is to make a billion.
If you have 100k which most Americans have would need to make 10x that.
If you have a million or 6 million, according to Trump haters, you would need to hit the billion mark 1000x or 333x from that supposed 6 million.
He is self made.

Wait. What if he had 4.28 million? Or 650,00? or 1?
What if his dad's total estate was valued at between 200 and 400 million?
