If it's not a head shot, you're still going to get mauled. Even if you hit it's organs...

The sound alone will send most bears running. You ever see the YouTube video of the grizzly stalking a mountain biker and about to attack then all of a sudden there is a shot miles away from a hunter or target shooter and it bolts off running?

One without cubs nearby, sure.

Ones with cubs nearby don't care.

I'd rather have a rifle, personally.

A shotgun with slugs is the preferred bear stopper but a rifle and shotgun are cumbersome when hiking.

I live in black bear country.... Saw the most bear in one day this summer (4)
All cubs ranging from 40 to 80 lbs.

Griz will kill , but will also bury you alive.

Black bear if need to protect cubs - will only kill.

Spray is o.k. , but a gun and your life is better.

Vid shows guy that survived an attack , spray might of effected her enough to leave him....

Saw one vid where a griz mum came charging at 45 mph... hunter had to kill her.
At 30-45 mph at you , your life comes first(.)

Wife and I were driving , bear standing in middle of road - honked horn , and bear ran like a son of a bytch into the woods.
Said to the wife , do you think you can out run that.....
She is naive and thought where ever she walks is O.K. :rolleyes:
