View Full Version : Why is everybody so sure Curry/Durant aren't winning MVP?

Just because they're on a stacked team? Didn't stop Lebron on the Miami Heat, did it? They're going to lead the league in wins and it's almost certainly going to be Durant's/Curry's award to lose.

Subjective, emotion based story lines factor into the MVP conversation. Durant is somewhat the villain at this point, much like Lebron was in 2011. Obviously, there is not as much animus directed at him, but he does presently carry that label to a small degree. That's going to impact the narrative. Additionally, unless Curry somehow misses 20+ games, Durant really can't do anything that would demonstrate any appreciable "value" to a team that won a record 73 games last season and was a few of minutes away from the championship. They are more than likely not going to win more games.
I also do not see Curry having a season as good as he had last year. Again, they will probably win between 65 and 69 games, which is obviously less than last season, and that will hurt his case for MVP.
Also, do be reminded that neither Wade nor Lebron won MVP in 2011. It took Wade noticeably declining/ taking a step back and missing several games for Lebron to win MVP in 2012.

Voters consciously or subconsciously looking for new blood maybe? Durant did win it alongside Westbrook (so it's possible of course), and Curry won the last 2, but idk, wouldn't surprise me of Westbrook or Kawhi or somebody new won it.

Well, I think Westbrook missed half the season where he won MVP. That was a major factor.

They're salty stans? This is from the same people who make the same awful topics once every day or two. Not saying they'll win mind you, but I can't see anyone outside of them two, maybe Kawhi if he improves and Lebron winning it this upcoming season. Westbrook might be a candidate, but OKC would need to finish top top 2 for that to happen. No one is going to vote for a someone in a loser position like 5th or 6th.

How do some of you still not understand the trends of MVP voting yet?
Lebron didn't win in 2011 because Wade was a co-leader. The year Wade accepted the "sidekick" role Lebron won MVP.
Unless KD takes the backseat from the start (which I wouldn't be surprised becuase he's a bitch), I doubt either of them win, regardless of their record.
Westbrook, Lebron, Kawhi, and Paul George in that order all have better story lines.
