This is my official prediction. I know people are hesitant to believe - saying they won't be trying as hard this year to win in the regular season and thus won't be able to pull off another 70 win season, as they save their energy and efforts for the playoffs.
Here's the thing... they will own everybody with 70% effort. They will break the record for 3's surpassing what they did last season. People will be very upset at times as the Warriors steamroll the league. People will be talking shit about Durant's decision, calling him a coward and a phony. But he will dominate. He will make it look easy. By the end of the season people will realize why the Warriors system is the GOAT. It will unleash Kevin Durant from the hellhole that was OKC ... the lack of passing and offensive talent on that team was abysmal and uncoordinated, ugly and disjointed. The Warriors will move the ball seamlessly and find the open man regularly. They will finish off jumpshots with precise accuracy from 3 point range and midrange. Durant will receive a huge amount of points in the paint at times from transition and well executed cuts to the basket. He will demonstrate his high basketball IQ by finding the open man and thus will receive an uptake in assisting numbers by virtue of being surrounded by 2 of the greatest 3 point shooters in basketball history. Understandably, he will see many open shots himself which will almost certainly make him more efficient from the field than he previously was in OKC* (a system where he scored more ppg from isolation attacks that anybody else in the league*)
Durants statline will look something like this: 26 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists on 57% from the field.
He will be the leading scorer and rebounder for his team. He will be the work-mule for Golden State. He will be a very durable and consistent scorer and decision maker for the Warriors.
I believe Durant will win MVP and the media and fans will lighten up on the criticism as they witness a highly dominant player on a highly dominant team. If there is anything an American fan is in love with it is a superstar player on a superstar team. Almost everybody is enamored with greatness. They will learn not to worry about how the team came together. They will learn to appreciate what's it like to witness pure, undiluted excellence in it's purest form.
The Warriors are winners at the highest level of sports. This upcoming Warriors team may be regarded as the best team (and eventually dynasty) in the history of sports when it's all said and done. As a result, this thread will forever be bump-able even 35 years down the line.
Ultimately, I believe Durant wins 5 championships with Golden State. It is hard to forecast the future long-term but I am confident he wins at least 5 championships. I believe he will win Finals MVP in three consecutive seasons starting this year.
