So on Sunday I went out on a date with this girl after talking to her on the phone for a couple of days. All I knew is that her name was Amy. Nothing more, nothing less.

On Sunday, we're at a Brewery/Bar and I ask her for her last name and I tell her mine. She had a confusing Italian name, plus it was loud, the Jets were sucking, so I couldn't really make it out. I told her my last name which is easy to remember and we kind of went on our way.

So tonight, I'm on Facebook and low and behold, Facebook is recommending her to me as a Friend to add under the "People You May Know" section. Her profile is right there waving at me! How in the holy hell is that possible??

son's account under "People You May Know"

(people be looking for me)

What the **** man. Shit. If this is true, I've probably stalked so many different people over the years and I'm popping up on their page all the time.

It's bad enough to be on that person's list,...

but to be bumped to the top each time you view their profile? F*CK.

yea... makes you look bad.

I think some people use fake profiles when they search for people.

It's either that or they have mutual friends.

How did all these random people from my AA meetings years ago
show up on my sons profile? I definitely wasn't looking them up.

They were looking for me... And I don't blame them :D

It's gotta be the mutuals, no matter how less they may have. My girls mum came up as a person I may know and only had 2 mutuals

It's a strange strange world out there on social media

I think Dooms is right on with this.

We don't have any mutual friends. I never searched for her prior to this cause I didn't know her full name either. She had to have found me on Facebook using my full name. Only explanation. Not cool at all.

It's because you have her number in your phone. Facebook knows her number and thus it shows up on your facebook since it knows you have her number.

I've had randoms show up on my "people you may know" and be like...wait a sec, is she that girl?

I never stalked her previously because she didn't have facebook but I still had her number in my phone.

Not necessarily ok with it. More like I just accept it.

And yeah, sometimes I throw a friend request. Why not? :lol

I think Dooms is right on with this.

I've used my ex wife's profile, my son's profile, and even an ex girlfriend's profile to take random trips down memory lane... not knowing that their profile was gonna show up on a list of "people they may know" for each profile I clicked on.

luckily I didn't do it very often.

wasn't until last year I noticed all these people I knew under my son's list that had me like: WTF???

Only explanation. Not cool at all.

No... it's definitely NOT cool.

This can also be the case.

I think Dooms is tripping, looking up someone else's profile won't put you on their list of "people you may know". It all has to do with mutual friends and cell phones.

Facebook asks you to give them access to your contact lists....if you accept, they have access. It's that simple.

Why wouldn't I be ok with it when I gave them permission in the first place? Who tf cares, only people with things to hide would be worried...9er, what you hiding?

....let me rephrase that, 9er WHO are you hiding?

I hope you are right...

but Idk about that...

Some of these people that showed up on that list were people I had never even exchanged numbers with, and it wasn't because of mutual friends.

I'll research this later and get a definitive answer, because now I'm curious.

Did you whatsapp her?

whatsapp shares info with Facebook, so if you messaged her there, they know.

Facebook gathers data in numerous ways.

your IP... your email, your email contacts... people that have you in their email contacts... your facebook searches... your profile views... people searching for you... third party applications... facial recognition software... the list goes on

They literally take it all... and they keep it, despite what their privacy policy states and blah blah blah.

Facebook is probably the most privacy invasive company in the history of the world... running neck and neck with Google.

So to answer your question, in this instance, it's almost a guarantee she searched for you.

However, there really are so many ways that they take data who the **** really knows..
